POE 2 Complete PC Freeze while loading screen

Same issue. 5800 (non x) rtx3090 24h2
Just had this happen to me too. Whole PC locks up and had to hard reset my PC. Happened when switching zones.
Every loading screen freezes the entire computer, game works without multithreading, but this changes fps from locked 144 to a whopping powerpoint of 30fps..

Win 24h2
RTX 3070ti
Ryzen7 5700G

If you're freezing on loading screens and you're using Windows version 24H2, and especially if you have an AMD CPU, then it's likely due to an issue with Windows 24H2 and it affects numerous games including Path of Exile 1 and 2.

Turning off "Engine Multithreading" in-game will "fix" the problem because it stops pathofexile.exe from using all your CPU, which is what causes the system to freeze. It's a huge overkill though because you are massively reducing your frame rate by only running on 1 core.

I've had this issue since around April 2024 when 24H2 was released to the general public for testing. I use BES CPU Limiter to reduce what PoE can use by a few percent so it can't hit 100% CPU, and I've not had any further issues.

For BES steps if you want to try it out:

1. Download BES CPU Limiter.
2. Unzip it, and run the .exe.
3. Launch Path of Exile 2 and stay on the log-in screen.
4. Go back to BES, and press the "Target" button.
5. Find pathofexile.exe in the list, select it, and press the "Limit this" button.
6. Set the slider at the bottom of BES between -2% and -5% (I would recommend -5%).

The task bar icon for BES should turn into a red square, Path of Exile 2 should be coloured in orange in the list inside BES, and it should say "Foe". See here for an example. Try anything between -2% and -5% (as mentioned I'd recommend -5% as -2% may not be enough to stop the system freeze).

There are other methods you can use if you don't want to use BES, such as setting the pathofexile.exe affinity in Windows Task Manager (through the Details tab) to use less CPU cores. You can also use something like Process Lasso to do the same thing, or reduce the maximum CPU usage of your system through Windows power options.

+1
Same issue same gpu same cpu ......
Someone has already tested it and they got the freeze anyway with a previous version of Windows, that's not the solution. I've tried everything other than disabling multithreading or whatever it's called and I can still get the freeze randomly. So I'll try that now but I hope it doesn't ruin my fps, I can deal with a little less fps.
