Hard crashing PC locks up

"
I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but here it is either way, yay.

Reddit post regarding Geforce Hotfix Driver 566.45 Released (Today)

This NVIDIA driver hotfix apparently addresses this Ubisoft/Windows crash.

"
According to recent reports, several Ubisoft games utilizing the Snowdrop engine, like "Star Wars Outlaws" and "Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora", are experiencing crashes on Windows systems, particularly after installing the Windows 11 24H2 update, which seems to be a known compatibility issue between the Snowdrop engine and the latest Windows update; this is causing crashes upon launching the game or shortly after starting gameplay.

It's been speculated that at least some aspect of the Path of Exile 2 crashes may be linked to this issue.

"
This hotfix officially only addresses the following issues:
...
Improved stability for UBISoft games using the Snowdrop engine [4914325]

NOTE: May also address issues with some other games that were unstable with R565 (565.xx/566.xx) drivers.

TL;DR: This hotfix could fix some sh*t. Merry Christmas. Maybe. Download link to nvidia.com is in the Reddit post.

Chances are it's not going to do anything.

There is a comment from an NVIDIA employee in that thread, responding to someone talking about crashes in PoE2, saying:

"
We believe this is fixed in our next driver scheduled for next month

It does not matter. EA bugs is things like "my skill does not work", "the game shuts down", "x node is not working", "this boss has an iffy hitbox" NOT "Game hard crashes, locking up the PC, requiring manual shutdown, possibly bricking my PC".

Yes it matters. The game is semi-baked. Expect poor balance, tons of bugs, lack of content. Everyone were warned from the start both by GGG and experienced community members.

It can. I explained the exact mechanisms enough times with decent clarity to the point anyone that claims otherwise is either a troll, or someone who is obstinate. Anyone that wants to double check can run my explanations through ChatGPT, ask a professor at their local university's ECE departments, or hit the books themselves.

Only if vendors don't follow their own SOPs and datasheets, or if the hardware already have the deffects and design flaws. Like 13th/14th Intel gen, very first X3D revision, 4090 12VHPWR connector bad design ans such things.

This one is actually true for some cases. The problem is this game does not come with a warning that it can cause problems that require above average computer literacy. In fact my greatest issue with this problem is exactly this. If they put a simple warning up top on steam and in this forum only people that know what to do would play the game despite crashes. This way GGG could have avoided causing people to incur damages.

Well. They did it actually? They game actually declared as EA already on the Steam Store, so user accepts everything related to that product state?

Those who say this omit the next portion which is "for a price". For some reason these type of derailers think that just because it costs something they can afford, the costs can be afforded by everyone.

Even if there were Samaritans that fixes PCs for free, the loss of time is substantial.

Let me clarify. If the game damaged the hardware, the user should ask thei vendors / manufactures (or the shop) why it happened. If some random shop or vendor sells the product with the specific limits, IT MUST, yes, IT MUST be stated in the data sheet. Like: "DO NOT LOAD YOUR CPU over 99%" or "DO NOT TURN POWER OFF by pressing the button". If it's not stated straight, directly, explicitly it's not user's responsibility for the bad hardware design, not allowing to turn the power off and the on. if it's user's fault - revoke the warranty from the hardware component (or entire rig).

This one is really a low social intelligence take. People have responsibilities. Some people enjoy living an ordered life. Some people just want to play the game they paid for when they want.

Sure. Exactly! They've choosen to suffer. Let it be.

There will be upcomming event in Vancouver in the nearest days dedicated to HFT and error correction methods used in parallel chain processing of the client orders generated in a way of packet storm by the modern robots. If you want to have some IRL discussion, you can meet me there.

Well, looks like email support ain't helping us.

Like I said. I do not care about normal bugs, or even normal crashes. Those are normal. But this is not a normal crash, this one takes out the whole OS with it. So I expect further communication from a professional company.

Even the best component only offers a minimalized chance when used properly. This crash happens as long as one keeps trying to play the game, which takes it way away from proper use. Although even with proper use "minimalized chance" never means "no chance".

"As is" software or "user accepts everything related to that product state" does not cover this type of event where the faulty software has a problem that goes beyond typical expectations for software defects and cause possible hardware damage. Courts would probably decide that such risks exceed the reasonable scope. Both in USA and EU there are laws that specify unreasonable risks, which crashes due to software actually count as.

My focus is on the normal specifications and normal uses. Even if one were to follow the specifications to a T, this type of incomplete shutdown is essentially a dice roll with a thousand faced dice.

I know the probabilities are low. I just don't like how GGG plays dead.

Furthermore, I ask anyone who sees this message to please give a negative review for Path of Exile 2 on Steam.
Nvidia employee replied that poe2 fix will be in next driver release. Looks like January release 🤣
Lol. How long until we all start to make Nvidia the new scapegoat? 🙄

Apologies for my ignorance, but how is a new GPU driver gonna solve a CPU issue?

Any information about ATI cards?

Well I have installed the 566.45 hotfix driver for nvidia. Played for a few hours without any issues or slowdowns on dx12 and not using bes or modifying the affinities

However a few hours later I decided to try playing again and it hard locked the pc when trying to load into the first area (town). Whats interesting is that in the past the freeze would make your mouse move at like 0.01x speed, but this time it was just a hard freeze. Nothing moving.

Windows 11 (24h2 whatever its called)
4060 ti using 566.45 hotfix with nvidia app
Ryzen 7600x
16gb ram (32gb pagefile, dynamic)

Atleast 10 hard locks today on map loading screen.
Been happening since launch and zero fix from GGG
Never in my life have I seen such a game breaking bug last so long.
GGG hire someone that has a clue how to fix your broken game.
