Hard crashing PC locks up

"
This isn't just a POE2 issue. It is also happening in POE1. The exact same pc freeze, during the same actions, loading maps or the game.

I get no crashes or crazy cpu utilization during load screens in any other games. Just POE1 and POE2. This is 100% a problem on GGGs end.

Most likely has something to do with the shaders because all the crash reports people are actually able to get, show shader as the error.

Try to play POE1, you will absolutely encounter the same issue. 100%

Confirming encountering it in POE1 as well as POE2. Have had it occur for years on several old systems on every version of Windows since 7, so definitely not a Windows issue or limited to POE2. Happens almost 100% of the time when on Directx12 or Vulkan, but less with Directx11. I think that's why it seems more common in POE2, because Directx11 is Default in 1.

Only thing that "helps" is disabling 2+ cores in system affinity, but it doesn't prevent the issue just prevents it from locking up your PC entirely and requiring a hard restart.

Just set up an entirely brand new system from the ground up the week before POE2 launch, went to test it in POE1, and have the issue occur consistently, so definitely hardware and software independent. It's absolutely a problem on GGG's implementation that got carried into POE2. Numerous threads and reports of the issue have popped up over the years, but its still going strong in both games. Hopefully if they ever manage to fix it, they remember to bring the fix back to POE1 too instead of just continuing to ignore it.

Edit: Also it's been happening way more in POE2 since this last patch. No clue what's changed it sure hasn't helped.

Please stop spreading Misinformation whether by accident, on purpose, or by not reading the thread. This crashing is happening on every possible system, every possible hardware configuration, and every single iteration of windows from Win10 every version from home to Pro, Win 11 24h2, 23h2, or any other version from home to pro. This is all GGG and Path of Exile 2 and its process in which it loads into the system. This is not the fault or Windows or any processor or any other hardware or incumbent software.

Please read the Thread and all the info being reported by the player base before pressing blame. This is all GGG and the Loading Process of the game.

Oh yeah? Then try to explain to me how on earth I had played 100+h without a single crash, and right after updating to 24H2 yesterday game hard crashes once an hour or so. You think it is just a coincident? Really?

Ryzen 7 3700X/2060 super/32GB RAM/Windows 11 24H2.

Same issue hard crash to desktop, seems random but absolutely was NOT an issue before the "E" patch.
It IS THE WINDOWS UPDATE. They need to fix something about the windows update. I just rerolled back to the day before i download that sht update and im not crashing anymore. Ty. I paused all my windows updates until 22/january. Lets see if ggg fix this

It isn't because people on windows 10 are crashing.

I've tried literally every single solution in these threads.

I've fresh installed Windows 11. Windows 10. Tried multiple different patches in each version. Have set exceptions in windows defenders. Limited CPU utilization. Tried minimum graphics. Every single thing mentioned. Nothing works.

Kapps (thanks for your work kapps) github app is helpful for preventing the pc from hard crashing, but the game still freezes.

This is a GGG issue.

Even people on linux appear to be having the issue.

I promise you, if you play enough, you will crash again. It will happen. All these "fixes" have always, without exception, been temporary. Sometimes you are good for a few hours, sometimes a couple days, but never permanently.

Impacted by this as well. Tried to load up a map and hard freeze x2 attempts. Had to hard cycle my machine to get it back.

i7-11700k
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti
Rog Strix z590-e gaming wifi
Windows 11 pro 10.0.26100 Build 26100
64 GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600mhz
2tb Samsung 990 pro SSD

GGG pushed an update
NVIDIA also pushed a driver update recently
MS pushed Windows 11 update as well

Get the support tickets open with vendors.

*UPDATE* not saying its the "root cause" but I rolled back my most recent Windows 11 update and PC did not hard lock this time and the map I was trying to get into loaded and pretty quickly.

Replying in this thread as well:

Okay, I think I found an actual fix. So setting the affinity of PoE to disable the first two cores will prevent your computer freezing, but PoE still gets stuck in a loop at 100% CPU without being able to make progress. When this happens, you can set the priority of PoE to realtime and whatever it's waiting on is then able to get scheduled and PoE unfreezes. You should then change it back to normal priority when the loading screen si done.

The new version of PoEUncrasher detects PoE freezing, and then does this to unfreeze it, resetting it after the loading screen automatically. The new version is up at https://github.com/Kapps/PoEUncrasher/releases/tag/v1.2.0. Note that you will need to run the program as an administrator for the unfreeze feature to work.

Hopefully this works for others!
you are a legend bro, just tried this for the last hour and it's saving every load screen crash with the realtime trick, ill report back if things change
I got very consistent crashes during gameplay, specifically in Clearfell and Hunting Grounds so I can't go further. In the hub it's happening semi-randomly (imo it can be related to other players around me) and in Hunting Grounds game crashes at the moment I run closer to thorned vines past the checkpoint. Other levels I played worked perfectly.

If devs are ignoring the problem since PoE1 (I started playing and never got crashes there) and want to ignore it in PoE2 I'll never buy an early acsess again. I really hope they fix it soon.
