Hard crashing PC locks up

"
I tried to run the game again this morning.

The game now crashes on me during the logo screen.

I can't even get to the LOGIN window without crashing.

I rebooted my PC, and ran all sorts of stress tests and benchmarking - no crashes.

Cinebench 23 - pass
Cinebench 24 - pass
3dMark Time Spy - pass
OCCT stability tests: CPU, CPU + RAM, both GPU tests, POWER, VRAM, SYS RAM -all pass
-No thermal throttling, No power throttling, no WHEA errors

I boot up Diablo 4, run around a Helltide for 20 minutes shooting off my Spiritborn's flashiest skills in the middle of large pack of monsters - no problem.

I run No Man's Sky, all settings maxed out - no problem.

I run Elden Ring, all settings maxed - no problem.

I run Starfield, all settings maxed - no problem.

I run Last Epoch, run around with my Echoing Warpath Void KNight mowing down a whole zone of monsters, all settings maxed out - no problem.

I run POE2 with the first two CPU cores disabled = instant whole-system crash during the logo screen. The SPINING GEARS LOGO SCREEN! I didn't even get a chance to see my character on the selection screen! This has gotten progressively worse. Whatever this game is trying to load is failing.

Can you try what i posted here: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3594126/page/185#p25661206 ?

Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One Nov 2024
LATEST

download from here ?
https://www.techpowerup.com/download/visual-c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/#changes-nov-2024

Please post if this helped. Didn’t have time to install.

That update has been installed on my PC since December 5th, and all the previously C++ libraries are also already installed. (I can see it in my Programs and Features tab in the Control Panel).

I'm still crashing constantly trying to play POE2. It doesn't solve any problems.

This one is complete package with 32 and 64. People say that the complete package helps with crashes !

The download includes the VC_Redist runtime packages for Visual C++ 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022. Both 32-bit and 64-bit are supported. The files included are the English language version.

it's recommended to always install all the various C++ runtimes, which is why this all-in-one pack was created. It helps to avoid problems with programs that cause error messages like "side-by-side configuration is incorrect", or "Missing MSVCRT.DLL", "VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found", or "MSVCP140.DLL".
This package is created by us here at TPU. All files are digitally signed by Microsoft, which guarantees they are unaltered.

Am I missing one? Looks like they are all there as of 12/3/2024.

Same thing, I can’t get past spinning gears logo — computer just hard reboots.
Tested with Cinebench OCCT, every other software possible — stable for 30+ mins on full (power test) mode in OCCT (it draws > 1250w from wall in this test), computer reboots only after 1300 (my PSU is 1000w titanium).

But as soon as I start Poe2 — instant reboot. Other games — no issues.

Other windows install — PoE2 runs w/o issues, so it’s definitely some software or driver issue — but I can’t find which. It started yesterday only.

From today I am getting hard crashing every 20 minutes or so. My whole system shuts down. Nothing in any event logs.

Installed RAM 32.0 GB
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 23H2
Installed on ‎18/‎04/‎2024
OS build 22631.4602
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1055.0

Can most consistently get it when returning to character select screen, but also happens when a lot happening like fighting a boss.

No issues in any other games. Half way through Indiana Jones on max (no ray tracing) without a single crash.

Talking in game in general chat, and most users who are crashing seem to be NVIDIA users.
I have been having this issue too.

Ryzen 5 7600X
GTX 1070

Turning off affinity for one of my cores does prevent my PC crashing, but my fans do spool up hard periodically to keep my cpu temps down, despite load being low.

Also Corsair Icue gets spammed with a pump failure message periodically too. I'm pretty sure its not actually failing, but it is indicative of how crazy this issue is diving my CPU.

Looks like it’s all there. If you are crashing during logo screen I would download C++ just to make sure.
If you are on steam client run POE2 with no logo

My Rig:
7800x3d
4090
32GB RAM

was crashing before every 3rd or so loading screen.
Tried Process Lasso, Hard Setting SMT Disabled.
Vulkan instead of DX12

All of this made the problem better but i would still get occasional crashes now and then.

Only thing that helped was setting Engine Multithreading to False which results in much lower FPS.

BUT I might have found the cause (atleast on my system) and a solution for it:

I was looking at Task manager and i saw that the
Antimalware Service Executable (Windows Defender) had super high CPU Load during Loading Screens.
Upon further investigation with Resource Monitor, it was scanning the Shadercache Files on each loading screen.

I always set an Antimalware Exclusion for my Games for their Folder and also did this for POE2 before launch, but the "problem" is that they moved the shadercache files from the gamefolder to "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile 2\ShaderCacheD3D12" which is obviously not excluded from Windows Defender.

After adding the ShaderCacheD3D12 Folder to exclusions the loading never crashed since more than 8 hours now. I can set Engine Multithreading and DX12 back and it works perfectly.

If you wanna try it too:
1. Open Windows Security (From Startmenu)
2. Click on Virus&Thread Protection
3. Under "Virus & Thread Protection Settings" Click on "Manage Settings"
4. Scroll all the way down to "Exclusions" and click on "Add or Remove Exclusions"
5. Click on "Add Exclusion" and then "Folder" and navigate to the app data folder (easiest way is to click into the navbar in the top and then type "%appdata%" which is a shortcut to the appdata folder)
6. Scroll down to "Path of Exile 2" double click on the folder and then choose "Select Folder"

7. Optional: Add an exclusion for the Path of Exile 2 Game folder the same way

Tried this, immediately crashed again.
Back to 'no multithreading' again, i guess.
Checked the first 20 pages of this thread and everyone crashing/locking up who lists their hardware has an NVIDIA card. So I think this is where the issue is.

Any/many Radeon users getting the same?
