Cold Chronomancer Megathread (WIP). CoF nerfed. Very slow gameplay now.

Would someone be down to guide me into what to do now, I am not able to get inot maps with what I have.....
I am struggling with Cruel ACT 2 now
"
Basically been trying every other cold spell in Comet's place in CoF to see if any of them did anything remotely usable.

Not luck so far. Some of them do proc pretty easily, but they hit like wet noodles and just eat mana for mostly nothing.

I suppose that with it proccing "for free" on bosses, we could slap hypothermia (70 max energy) on it and that would save us 1 button. Get it applied on every freeze on bosses for a nice damage window.

Spirit cost doesn't seem worth doing this tho.

comet is 300. I dont know why. its still 2s cast.
It's due to this (new?) part in the Maximum Energy description:

Since Comet has a 1s cast time "+1s to total cast time", it counts as a 3 second cast time spell.

Good catch.

Anyway, yeah, my version which wasn't using comet in the first place is largely unchanged.
Yes, my Cast on freeze frostwalls is also less frequent. but it was always supplemental.
massive freeze build up on frost bolt was the first line.
I wasn't doing that to cast on freeze. I was doing that to permafreeze everything.

cold freeze is slower. I mean... yeah..? Thats what freeze is. defensive lockdown. Lighting shock is +50% damage, fire ignites are damage over time burns.
The is the same with Chronomancer. we kind of knew timerift/freeze were defensive tools. recoup is defensive. aoe slow is defensive. only the CD and "faster cast" nodes were offensive.

yeah, autobombers are nice.

we are atm, very limited by the number of CD skills. look at the passive tree, and notice the TRAP clusters to the right.
Chronomancer synergies with skills with cooldowns and charges... frostwall, grenades, and... traps. (mines too presumably)

For right now. can also spend some time working on weapon swaps. see if quarterstave abilities fit in. This is especially true for those going over to Dynamism.
Or, consider a weapon swap to Mace for Hammer of the gods.

I will be experimenting further of course. (later, got some things going on today)
ele invocation, cast on crit, etc.

freezing mark+herald of ice maybe.

herald of ice being attacks only really screws with cold mages.
chrono cd stuff not working on minion skills also is rough.

We need to fix the clearing. Bossing i'm fine with.

Checked some videos of lightning/fire spells (stormweaver/infernalist respectively) and... idk. Wasn't that impressed honestly. Both felt by far inferior to CoF-Comet we had yesterday.

However, both of them are faster than me now, that's for sure. I kill rares faster than a pack of small trash.

Atm I have gold for 1 weapon set respec, up to try fire spells 1st. I don't see in cold spells anything compared to ignite prolif or spark spam.
yeah, I don't really know what you guys were doing for clear exactly...

-frost bolt: faster proj, faster cast, glaciation. offscreen freezing. faster cast makes sure we stay decently mobile and spam them out.
+scattershot adds more coverage.(can swap with glaciation) if we could get +proj from other sources that'd be great. hell those passive tree prj nodes look amazing.. although, we don't have the spare points.

cold snap has no CD so can be spammed on all those frozen enemies. crit on imm, building crit, etc all work great.
frost bomb of course.

-freezing shards. projectiles, so doesn't compete for the aoe supports as much.
Chain or peirce early game. Fork late game. from what I understand Fork works on ice walls.(chain does not) wall, shards+fork+richochet?
shards are a spell, not an attack. sadly, shards would probably be BETTER if it were an attack.

-eye of winter of course. slower proj. should help its coverage. same deal with its scaling with proj, which we can't really afford in the passives, while can in the support gems.

I tried and failed to get shock into the build. like, freeze using "freeze buildup" I think without shock passives, its just too hard to get. easy shocking ground would be very nice.

Ignite however is easy. flame wall works great. pairs with those mentioned projectiles skills, AND immobile frozen ones. that said, while theres a few nodes that benefit from aliments on target, without directly scaling fire, exposure, etc, I don't really see the use much.
Bit of a crapshoot but trying to save my chrono haha, has anyone tried
Blueflame Bracers Goldcast Cuffs? Either using fire spells or doing some conversion from somewhere else?

This is the clearest example of how this change to trigger gems was extremely poorly done...

Clearing elite mobs way faster than normal mobs is ridiculous 😆
i dont mind single target damage. like rares and bosses since we used frost wall / frost bomb anyway.

we need clear speed. at least decent one.
oii tried frost wall + fireball but its shit.

frostbolt for dmg? are u serious right guys? it does minimal damage. u need to fire like 5-6 shots to kill white mobs.

cold spells are only good for utility freezing for party right now.

the only option seems to be HotG but i dont even have cash for respec and gear.

and we dont have any ascendancy nodes for damage dealing so i think any other ascendancy will just do better what we are trying to do.

maybe when other classes skills will come chrono will have its time to shine even a little. for now. its just mediocre as fck.

no frost bolt freezes and chills them. coldsnap or frost bomb kills them.

At the high end, we probably will be doing something like Blink+frost nova for blasting through maps. blink dive at packs, aoe nova freeze. cast on crit, cast on freeze, or manual coldsnaps.
this obviously only works when you have enough defense to survive divebombing packs, and and enough damage to 1 shot freeze them all with nova.

I wonder if blink counts as a dodge for "cast on dodge"..
So blink is also a Cooldown spell.
60 spirit. 3.8scd.

cast on dodge is 2 energy per meter of dodging. which would imply its cast AFTER the dodge. 10 max energy per .1s cast time as well. 2 energy doesn't sound great. we assume what, average 5m per blink? would be like 18 energy per dodge, with impetus at level14 gem.
(both would require 130 spirit)

yeah. so manual cast nova probably makes more sense.

Am i being blind (probably) but in your images i cant see if you have taken Dex or Int on some of the points.

It sort of looks yellow to me and now i think im just being blind/noob lmao

not sure who you are talking about specifically. for me, I have not specified.
its always just "take what you need" and respec as needed.

I did start listing stats needed for my skill gem lists. supports need a +5 stat for each support gem. a red support needs +5 str. a green needs +5dex. this can be gained on gear as well I think. just in multiples of 5.

Gear itself has requirements as well. es gear needs int, armor gear needs str, evasion gear requires dex. hybrids need each in relation.
can't really say what gear you have found to justify.

as for the raw stats, STR gives life, which we need and like, unless we cover life entirely with Energy shield or mana shield. Int gives us raw mana, which we need and like. Dex gives us Accuracy, which we have no use for.

evasion gear pairs well with Energy shield, and mana shield however. armor less so.
