" Standing still is death if you lack defense. I’ve played melee builds that could stand and trade blows on lesser attacks like trash mobs or bosses’ basic melee attacks. RF should be built with very high defenses and regen so it should be fine. Curses, exposure, and scorch is a lot of jank and investment compared to taking an ascendancy node and standing still so I’d expect them to be stronger than this. They took a lot of defensive power against physical hits by removing the 20% of physical damage from hits taken as fire damage from Tasalios Node.
Easy Fire Conversion and support especially for Reap/BV speccs (Physical Spells) is gone aswell, these builds will suffer a lot from these changes and may need ridicolous gloves to compensate. Regarding totems Arohongui is gutted aswell, 8% less damage for enemies and 16% more phyisical/fire damage for totems ... just gone. Generic Physical Spell with Fire Conversion and Totem builds are way worse with Chieftain now, and those where the most played archetypes. (Although it is now easier to cap 90% all max resist) I am torn about the 500% explode, it may be really incosistent, but you could make some crazy ignites and proliferate them. He wasn't actually doing any forward thinking analysis (not that he could or should before patch notes) so I turned it off. Every time they change ascendancies in a large scale way new options open up to replace what went away. Adapt or die. Sorry if it frustrates you that a streamer hasn't spoon fed you the details yet, but they will in the future, they always do. To refer back to the thread title 'the changes seem very inconsiderate' - yes. All balance changes in a live service game are inconsiderate to the status quo. Especially in a game like this where 'what works' is generally defined by those who haven't seen sunlight since their last birthday as 'the thing I spent 3 weeks crafting in excel, on a calculator, and on PoB to eke out .005% more damage so I can furiously masturbate over reducing my uber Maven kill time to one less fraction of a frame'. Your builds will still work. Despite the inevitable inconsiderate inconveniences. Go theorycraft a different ascendancy, different gear, a different gameplan. If that doesn't sound fun or sounds like too much work, wait for a streamer to steal an idea from a small content creator or a nobody on poe.ninja and they will tell you exactly where to click your buttons to get your results. |

RIP melee totems. Chieftain is the only ascendancy for this.
The other 10% is almost all Jugg totems, and they all use Forbidden jewels to take Chieftain's Tukohama node. No one is playing melee totems Hierophant. |
