What happened to One Game - Two Campaigns?

PoE 1 will be kept on life support for a while, but it's definitely not getting the same love as PoE 2.

It will depend on what the metrics look like I'm sure. If people are logging in to play new PoE1 leagues and buying MTX while they're there, it will keep getting support indefinitely.
It became two games - one campaign!

to some degree you guys need to understand that your choices were that PoE1 changed beyond recognition or they didn't share - they couldn't make what they wanted to any other way or at least anything worth classifying as new or an xpac.

I get being unhappy that you can't play your pog character in 2, but would you really be happy if your pog character became garbage due to being forced into a game with totally different pacing?

Let me see if I can help you to understand... PoE 1 was gonna receive a lot of QoL upgrades, most especially the new gem socketing system, added to the game as it existed. Somewhere along the way (just after the release of the PoE II Act 2 reveal, according to Jonathan Rogers in an interview at Exilecon this past weekend) GGG prolly realized that, "Hey, we have half the components of a whole new game, and all these new ideas we could never implement in the 'old' game. Why waste ANY of it there?"

Thus, a project which was intended to extend the lifespan of PoE 1 instead became an unheralded successor with a significantly different set of mechanics and rules and features. I am glad they didn't try to merge ALL that hot mess into PoE 1, but I am still saltier than the Dead Sea about the bait-and-switch, and especially about the obvious fact that PoE 1 is now on a countdown to oblivion.

I'm not exited anymore for the big 4.0 patch in POE 1. Will wait and see but:

I mean everything they could possible add with the rump crew working on it is probably Betrayal league worth of content and mechanics at most (if optimistic), to give a scale.

Not that massive jump as from 2.6 -> 3.0.

That's a problem here, PoE1 wasn't going to receive a lot "QoL" upgrades. It was going to get complete overhaul of most (in not all) of it's core systems.

The change to socketing, wasn't going to be quality of life change. It was going to be core system change which would require rebalancing of basically everything in the game that is related skills and items, including skills themselves.

Calling that is a QoL is either not grasping the implications of such change or just ignorance.

They announced changes to skills system, complete itemization rework, passive skill tree changes and changes to other core systems.

More info were to be announced at later time. Then pandemic happened.

later in 2021, they rather clearly explained they philosophy about combat in PoE2, with visual examples. Anyone who watched an listened to that video cannot be surprised by skills or pacing of PoE2.
I personally think it was a brilliant decision. The split of the games gives a lot of advantages.

This is my perspective. I have no proof this is what they will do.

From a business perspective, GGG no longer has to worry about a 3-month league, having the masses play for 4-6 weeks & leaving. The solution is, to play the new PoE 2 League as they plan the release the leagues 4-6 weeks apart. This is now a danger to other games that rely on people leaving after the league to play other games. I see no reason to kill PoE 1.

Seeing as the current plan is to nerf everything & hope people play longer so they will buy more MTXs. This is a bad business plan. There is no intelligence when all you are doing is limiting the DPS & doubling the mobs' HP to prolong the game.

They should have no issues supporting both. I believe Jonathan Rogers said there were over 100 developers on PoE 2. Chances are they will create new leagues once the game comes out. That would split Chris PoE1 & Jonathan PoE2. It would be a great competition between 2 leaders.

You have also solved the issue with people who like zoom zoom against those who want a slower-paced game.

By making sure you can use your MTXs across both platforms, it does not matter what game you like.

GGG has a possible solution to combat the D4 playstyle which some have compared to PoE 2.

If you hate a league, no need to wait 3 months, only 6ish weeks for the new league in the other game.

Not to mention they have just doubled the MTXs available as there will most likely be a new set for each league. I hope they reduce the prices a little bit. Us Canadians are getting killed paying US $. lol

I am looking forward to it.
I am not Anti-Social, I am just selective on whom I wish to be social with.
They should not have called it Path of Exile 2 then right?
But more something like Adventures of the Sword Coast, ehhh i mean Adventures of Wraeclast.

Oh don't worry pal that was a clever use of speech mechanics.

Nobody knows. Just hope they know what they're doing because it's clear POE 1 has like, what, 18 months before shutting down?

If you believe for a second they will support both games equally you're very naive, to say the least. They'll keep on life support for a while, but that's it.

Why would they do this? How are we supposed to play our PoE 1 characters in PoE 2 then?

They are doing this for one, and only one reason

they think this will bring in more money
