I mean we don't know what it is beyond the description of Extreme Item Scarcity so there at least seems to be more than just that to amp up the difficulty, probably bigger modifiers to the enemies.
That said, I suppose the question is if these enemies even have interesting mechanics baked into them, or is it just going to be an overwhelming numbers game the way you end up with archnemesis mods currently buffed to high heavens with interactions to map mods (e.g. hasted and maps with attack / cast speed buffs further buffed by atlas passives of 2% buff to normal map mods). I will try it out but we will see if I'll stick around. Items will be a lot scarcer but currency as well, so prices will be similar to normal leagues. You will be rich if you gathered 10 chaos.
It does split the HC playerbase even more. HC Trade and SSF will lose a lot of players, especially SSF since Ruthless will be the new bragging mode. I hope they get a different global chat, so I don't have to hear all the trash talk. Maybe Ruthless should have been a special mode as private league? Loot based game without loot. Given the implicit solo nature of ssf, I don't see the difference between there being 10 and three hundred thousand people playing it.

My guess is that they'll use the alpha test of ruthless to determine if the "unlucky" roll modifier (i.e. roll X times, pick worst outcome) should be applied to hit and damage rolls as well as loot rolls.
I don't really see much development time going into ruthless. All they have to do is apply unlucky on all rolls and voila - hard mode. Let each player choose which version of PoE to play:

HC trade isn't dead yet its fine for the first 3-4 weeks its kinda how they want trade to be, removing more players from it is a problem though.
That being said HC in general has really dropped in viability as a game mode already I would think we aren't too long from everyone being HCSSF or back to SC which is a shame. |
