RUTHLESS
sounds more like pointless to me.

League should be renamed to Endless Drought because it's what it really is.
I dont think the scarcity will make the dropped loot better. It's simply just less loot with the same shitty items that drop already. Ruthless would assume harder content like buffed monsters stats and new abilities but sadly nothing of it. Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
"A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body." Only usable with Ethanol Flasks |

" Having a lot less loot does lead to the content being harder though - having fewer links sharply increases the monsters' relative health, and not being able to cap resists effectively increases the monsters' damage and overall dangerousness. | |
One thing people are ignoring are the NPC vendors which can help a lot to compensate for less dropped loot.
Capping resists is relatively easy even with less loot. Alira + res rings from vendors. Or if still bad resists one can use Purity of Elements as a temporary crutch. So yeah capping resists is still not a problem if people go for it. 5+ link damage i agree but 4 links are often sold by vendors so leveling in campaign should be nearly as smooth as before. Maybe i'm totaly wrong and vendors and their offered items are disabled but i see no clues that triple G will go down this route. Masterpiece of 3.16 lore

what is the over under bet that they just take the general loot table and add like 5 zeros in front of every item, so they would be 10000 times rarer, then actually make a mode.

Feels like it might be just more grindy...
I feel better design would be rather than just decrease drop rate (wich at the end of the day, just make the game more grindy, not really any harder) they instead cull the power celling on items, like... bring back D2 design where the top 2 affixes can only spawn on blue stuff, make so that rare stuff cant hold more than 1 mod with the same tag(wich would open possibilities for craft, but heavily cut the max power). Heck, you could even INCREASE the drop rate if you instead made items less powerful to make both more challenging and more consistent |

Its just a mode done by removing functions from the game (they are good at that, see 3.19). So in that sense, it was probably done in like a day or two.
Splitting the player base even further is pretty bad tho, since we got to a point where leagues die within ~14 days. I am not saying its pointless, but it will just hightlight even further the current and major flaws of the game. |

It is better to split the player base than to have a part of it constantly miserable at the expense of another depending on which direction the balancing goes. Not to mention that GGG has enough resources to balance 2 difficulties every 3 months. More players will easily join the game once they know that their type is catered tom which will further alleviate the slum in the economy for a league or two.
Also, the size of the market in a certain country where only adults are legally allowed to play for more than 3h a week. Technically, after their 10+ h workday and their family obligations. To quote a character from everybody's favorite game: "I hope you brought your wits with you, for sanity is in short supply here." |

" I completely agree. I was in a ProjectPT HC private league, no vendors, no stash, flasks did not refill in town, just hard. We will see, I will try it for sure. ~ Please separate the PoE1 and PoE2 forums.
