The Self Found League

Honestly...the big problem is the setup of the community.
It's hard to trade via proper Tradechat. Because....well...it's tradechat, and that has historically never worked well for games.

It's hard to trade generally via the forum, mainly because of bidding and timezones and getting out-offered because you can really only be on when your seller is trying to sleep.

I've been able to trade and craft with some friends, to a good bit of success, although they don't play nearly as much as me, so I'm personally pushing for in-game 'Clan' or 'Guild' support.

It's already hard enough to talk about builds and the passive tree when you're negotiating between HC-only players and Default players, this would add even more absurd complications to discussion.

They are already working on enhancing trade by a good deal. What we have now is just a tideover till they get it done.

This suggestion wouldn't make any changes to the trading system since self-found league would have NO trading in it so there's nothing to talk about. This is for people who want nothing to do with trading in any way shape or form.

The two aren't mutually exclusive. You can have better trade tools in HC/Default while others can have no-trade-at-all in Self-Found.
There's a fraction of players who like consistency and predictability: killing boss X will yield item Y.

This game really isn't for people like that.

This game is for people who'll do the same area over and again because they know..., a Mirror can drop anywhere, anytime. - CharanJaydemyr
+1 to this league

Goodbye to all you Fing gold farmers...this league will put the nail in the coffin

I like this idea.

However, 'no trading' will really only work for single player. Any groups of friends looking to enjoy party play would be discouraged when someone finds the perfect item for someone else in the party.

Perhaps the drop rates of orbs and gear could be so high that even if trade is left enabled, there'd really be no point in even trying to sell anything as you'd be finding your own exalted orbs all over the place.

Another possibility is that GGG could allow players to make one league of their own per account (with possibility of purchasing additional league slots from cash shop) and those leagues would be invite only.
That way people could play with their friends but not have anything to do with trading outside the closed group of friends.

The custom leagues could have a number of options you could choose from to customize the experience, from drop rate to permanency of death, pvp options and monster difficulty to name a few.

While I'm not exactly an expert. I'd say that custom leagues wouldn't add that much extra load / data for the servers to handle.

Then again, everyone would be playing in custom then and nobody would be in normal default/HC o.O

I think dev could add the possibility for trading items who where founds with friends in the same run. It's I think the best compromise to do and this is a good way to make group a little more rewarding.
No, you can't have friend trading, because: 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon. Ruins the whole thing, system would be gamed. Trading has to be absolute ZERO. Zero. nada. zip. No ifs, ands or buts.

I think what polymortis means is that any time loot drops, it gets tagged to everyone in the party within a certain radius (current loot assignment radius would work just fine).

If your name isn't on the list for an item, then you can never receive that item in trade. So in other words, it could only be traded between people who were in the general area at the time when it dropped. The loot tags could just as well disappear after the party is disbanded or maybe in 5-10 minutes after drop, giving trading a very short grace period.

Or maybe the whole thing could be based on that grace period. Allowing free trading on any item for 5 minutes would fix the group issue, but would essentially remove the normal trading altogether.

That way 6 (7?) degrees of Kevin Bacon can't ruin the game.
If it can be done then I can see that working. It would have to be set so that ONLY that item can be flagged: that is you can give the item to someone else but you can't trade any other item for it (except perhaps other items with the flag). Thus partymates are free to give IDed items to one aother but they can't actually TRADE anything as all other items are still banned from the trade window.

However, that sounds like a mess to code as I doubt there's anything currently in the system for letting Some items be tradable to some people but not others. Making the game No Trade can be done by removing the 'trade' button and using the 'drop/destroy' code in town and just plopping it in all maps instead. When it comes to code, KISS helps keep the bugs down.

Again though, if the coders can do what you ask without taking a year then I say that's fine. I just can't imagine it being possible and would rather not put any heavy delays on establishing the league to try.

Yes it's exactly what I tryed to explain but my english isn't perfect and sometimes i have some difficulties to explain myself.
Another vote for this

Definitely a league I would play in permanently.

I'm finding it very hard to get any motivation to continue playing anymore, or roll any new chars as it always comes down to having to trade to get new gear. I'm 46 years old and I remember when argps used to be kill mobs...find loot. now it's all down to grind to get currency...sit on trade, or spend your time on trade buying and selling to make currency to buy your next bit of gear.

As I posted in another thread, my current char from lvl 40-67 has not found a single useful drop gear wise. 27 levels of grind for nothing is not fun.

Regards crafting I think the stickyed crafting thread says it all, where the first piece of advice is "don't craft, buy it"...so much for an enjoyable crafting system.
very nice idea - i also think a 1 month ladder could be fun
