3.15 League Starters

Shield Skill Raider to farm gear for a Forbidden Rite build.
I'll be doing a bleed SST Gladiator (not first in this thread damn it!). As the other dude mentioned, the numbers on those shield skills are incredible.

There's lots of stuff I want to try with the new skills though. Forbidden Rite looks very cool. Battlemage's cry as well (I'm really curious how it'll interact with the discharge cooldown since the cry itself also has a cd). Manabond looks fun too. I might get tempted into a different starter if any of the 20/20 gems look truly incredible.

Dude, let me tell ya something fun, a Dead Eye spectral shield thrower with the bounce skill. Just so fun and hilarious you get so many chains and the shield has huge chain range if ya ivnest in her passives side for it. Now with the chain gems adding even more chain range it should just like bounce everywhere. Also if an enemy is near your shield can bounce off the wall with the Dead Eye passive, talk about fun dude, if ya wanna see an example let me know I have my old one on standard, hard to beat some bosses but it clears well is soo fun. I been doing tier 14 haunted mansions with it for the hideout and about to do some more, if ya wanna see let me know here.
Trap is a safe starter but forbidden rite is very interesting.

I wait for the new gems figures and will decide tomorrow

Im really bad at doing builds but im intereseted in the new blade trap and the rework of seismic trap (one of the few buff of this patch :p).

Im totally lost on how to scale Blade Trap and what is the best weapon for it ...

slam totem (with consacrated path or something else) could be a better and safer option i guess :)

Blade Trap scales off of your weapon damage and off of generic trap damage. Apparently it counts as an attack, which is crazy and offers a lot of potential damage scaling. Trap supports were left mostly untouched; their mana multipliers went up but otherwise they suffered effectively none of the sweeping changes other builds did. If Blade Trap scales on attack damage, then it's going to be incredibly powerful.

The best way to scale it would be to find a dagger, claw, or one-handed sword (depending on which class you're playing and where in the tree you are) with the highest possible single-hit damage. Blade Trap deals a fixed amount of 'attacks' from your weapon at a fixed rate, so it ignores attack speed and similar 'overall DPS' modifiers entirely. You want the biggest, gnarstiest damage number you can find, even if the weapon has a terribly low attack speed that would otherwise cripple it. The big winner is probably a dagger-based Saboteur, given how difficult it is to build sustain into non-Saboteur trap builds.

Yah I was wondering how well a volcanus + blade trap + AoF build would pan out. NONE of the conversion damage supports gems were nerfed either...

Also, if it counts as your hit, does that mean dom blow or HoP would spawn???

Yep, i was thinking the same, now i need to think about the tree. I heard that dagguers were not that great because of the tree (not great notable as claws have).

Edit : Paradoxica could be good for Blade trap as we can use One handed swords too ?

I was talking totems but damn SST looks good.
~ I have selective hearing, and today, you have not been selected.
I decided that if I play this league, it's going to be using one of the new skills. Which one is still up in the air.

I normally like running summoner builds as starters, and I really want to like Summon Reaper, but I'm concerned that said reaper will come up short - if you're taking a 40% nerf to other minion health and damage at max gem level *and* losing them to the reaper as food, your reaper is going to need to do a ton of damage to compensate. On top of that, keeping good spectres up will be a pain since they're just going to be eaten too, so that reaper is also going to need good range. I just don't see it stacking up, but I may still roll one and see what happens.

I'm also really interested in Explosive Concoction - I like the idea of a skill that draws directly from flasks for damage. I'm not much of a theorycrafter so I'm not sure what a EC build would look like, but losing 3 sockets to run unarmed and 3 flasks to the skill also means that it's going to have to be powerful enough to compensate for the potential loss of extra utility.
Both Blade Trap and Spectral Helix look great. Spectral helix hits like a slam. Its main downside is that it is not tagged melee so it will miss out on a lot of supports and crit mult on the tree and similar. If you can work around that, however, it could be strong.

Blade trap with vulconus could be a riot.
