3.15 League Starters
" That was IMO already brainstormed. Soul Mantle spell totems will probably be your best bet. 10k+ totem life, and you've got all the convenience of using a totem instead of casting yourself without losing damage.... |

" Pew... I would really think about when I have the last time played a life based char. :D * a minute later * yeah.. my first mining char was life based with MoM, but that was even before the mine rework. CI has really become a habit of mine, so I haven't really thought about alternatives until now. But since we are discussing about this... maybe use forbidden rite in order to trigger CWDT spells? Essence Drain + Contagion would be an obvious way to migrate some of the damage. If you go the poison route for Forbidden Rite, the (chaos) damage over time stuff would also help Essence Drain in order to leech more. You say Prison Cell, I hear 'Holiday'.

" Self-damaging usually avoids CWDT, I think there's one or two exceptions. Unlikely that this will be another one. |

Hmm. Soul Mantle means you'll be suffering all the curses with devastating effect, since Forbidden Rite totems will die in four shots at the absolute maximum and require constant replenishment. With curse immunity basically gone and Soul Mantle's "80% more effect" meaning no amount of curse effect reduction really helps, that's gonna be a dangerous build in an entirely different way.
I think I'll leave CWDT nonsense to Jousis, who I will also task with figuring out how to pay for his various Infinite Cast Loop nonsense. If I were building it though, I doubt I'd bother with Contagion - Forbidden Rite is your clearing, nobody cares about Contagion's spreading effect. Essence Drain (and Soulrend, likely) would be to add some bossing ability to yonder Chaos Mortar Squad. Hm. The CI version is likely the safe bet for league start, but I'm keen to see what more creative folks than myself will do to try and work around Forbidden Rite's suicide rates. |

" Ask Uber Atziri for curse protection. |

Champion Steel skills possibly. Since I'm not going to be a flask piano player this patch then the button mashing will be easier to manage on that build. I need an updated PoB with skill gem info to make sure it's still OK. Short of that I could see myself trying out Eye of Winter. Do you think CoC Eye of Winter is possible? Maybe that's something I do in Standard.

If I were to hazard a guess, as an intelligent but ultimately casual player rather than a HARD KORR BILD KRAFTYR N0-LYFE STREEM MONSTER, I would wager that the overall flavor of Cast on Crit and similar trigger builds will change. They'll still be viable, but they'll need to be viable in a different way.
Pre 3.15 trigger builds abused the everlovin' badonkey Haysoos out of the lack of mana cost on their trigger skills to create as many instances of that skill as possible. The actual triggering skill - the attack, in the case of CoC - was basically unsupported and considered entirely unimportant, because your damage came from ensuring you reliably hit your crits as close as humanly possible to the skill's internal cooldown as you could get to maximize DPS. Post 3.15, that will be significantly less of an option for everything but Mjolnir. Doing that would cost gajillions of mana per second and be unsistainable without Archmage-level mana investment, and possibly even with Archmage-level mana investment. 'Modern' trigger builds will need the triggering skill to be doing work itself, at least inasmuch as Cast on Crit will likely be at least somewhat reliant on the carrier attack's mana leech for sustain. The gabonkulous cast rate for traditional/old-style CoC builds won't work, so you'll need to deliver more powerful spells less often, or use Cast on Crit to deliver support-style spells rather than treating the spell being cast as the primary/only damage source. CoC will be more like Cast While Channeling in that the carrier and the triggered spell will need to have better synergy as well as actual care taken to figure out mana sustain. So it'll work, but it'll take different thought beyond "how can I get a .150000000000000001 attack time and 105% crit chance?" |

" Thanks for the writeup. I will be on the lookout for a Mjolnir build as well. Last edited by jack_aubrey#0655 on Jul 21, 2021, 1:36:37 PM

To be fair, I think Cast on Crit Eye of Winter could be built just fine.
People are screaming and hollering because the traditional Cospri's Malice build - i.e. a seven or eight-link chest with a Cast on Crit setup in it and two Cospri's Malices, each triggering on cooldown, dealing banana buttjillions of spell DPS while the entirely unsupported carrier melee attack deals maybe 2k total DPS - is more than likely dead. You just can't sustain mana with that build considering the actual attacks it launches deal effectively zero damage. One Cospri's Malice with a 3L Eye of Winter in it, using a regular attack without Cast on Crit, should be perfectly fine. Or frankly even if you cast-on-crit with the thing, so long as your carrier attack deals enough damage that you have worthwhile leech, you'll be fine. You could try and rig up some mana-on-hit jewels, but that will generally let you down on bosses. |

Chris says: "I Want a slower game so players can interact more with our "interesting" bosses. (What, all 3 decent ones?)
Me: "OK, minions it is while I afk and let them beat the boss for me, yet again. I love minion leagues" |
