The Easiest of the Easy Beginner Build Guides [1.1 SotV UPDATED]

Its not just your bow mate, almost all of your gear is terrible. You have barely anything boosting your damage.

Things you want besides the neccessary life and resists to survive:

+% phys damage
+% elemental damage
+# phys dmg mods
+# elemental damage mods
+strength

And definitely get 5links for your attacks. Find a white 5l, qual it to 20, then craft up from there. For a bow, get a white 5l or 6L (pref 6l), qual it to 20, then transmute/alt it until the 2 mods you have are 100%+ physical damage and a physical damage modifier (or an elemental one if you are having terrible luck), then regal it from there. Even just a blue 5-6l bow with % and +phys will be a huge upgrade lol.

Chain+added fire on your LA will add a lot of damage to packs.


This build will not do top damage, but geared right it has very high and STEADY damage output with resolute technique 100% accuracy rate and no reliance on crits.

Thanks to some of the post in here, I've learned a lot in this past week, and upgraded some of my stuff, and I switched to chain after watching ziigyd's recent video. Despite the dps drop on the tool tip window, it clears mobs way faster than my previous set up. There have been post asking about geat at higher levels, so I will post what my 80 ranger has now after the upgrades.

None of this was too expensive, some of the stuff are self found/crafted(rings/amulet/boots), and the most expensive item was the bow at 10 chaos, I probably could have gotten one for a bit cheaper, but I was grateful to finally find an online seller when I bought it. Right now there is a similar dps thicket on poe xyz with a b/o of 6 chaos if it's still there. I did the 5 links myself.

Can someone give me an advice how to upgrade ?
I'm currently farming docks with ease and after a few levels i'll try farming catacombs.
currently 1,9k frenzy dps / 770 LA dps. Level 67.
( i'm running proj. weakness and temp chains)

Hmm let me see. On your frenzy added fire will add a lot more than added cold, as the fire adds as a % of phys damage. And weapon elemental is not that great for frenzy, I'd go with increased projectile physical instead. Once you get more links you can put wep ele back.

That bow is rather meh, youd be better off with a high phys %, +phys, +elemental bow with 5 links. At your level you might consider crafting your own, and you can get a decent price for the markarth.

Loathe spiral ring is meh, we dont use accuracy.

Gloves are terrible.
Quiver has no life and a low % elemental roll.
Chestpiece needs to be chaos'd to get better defenses and much more life. I've seen level 50 chest pieces with 1500 evasion and 90 life, yours has 500 and 59. Really no reason not to chaos orb it a few times.
In general you have less life than you should, some items have zero life, others have very low life rolls.
Your life leech is lacking too. Rings, amulet, and gloves can all have additional leech. % elemental on rings/amulets wouldnt hurt either.

Quality flasks, get some white ones it only takes 4 baubles to qual a white to 20, then transmute/alt em into the stats you need. Avoid charge on crit as we do not crit ever.

IMO I would sell both of your unique items for a huge profit (definitely the bow at least, this isnt a point blank build), and use the proceeds to craft a great bow and buy upgrades. But I generally do not find uniques terribly useful unless you build around one. A specific close range point blank build could do great with that bow, this build doesn't benefit from it at all.

Just a thought. Your gear has lots and lots of room for improvement, but besides that and frenzy your skill setups are perfect.

I do however run auras so i got moral conviction, and with grace i get 6.9k armour, with wraith i get 1.3k damage on my normal attack. Also i don't die because of the life gain on hit and chain on LA.

Since you are not getting any of your resists from your boots you might try out a pair of "The Blood Dance" sharkskin boots. I find they are still working nicely for me at 76 and have worn them since 44. The increased damage against low life per frenzy charge is great. The other bonuses per frenzy charge are nice too. The best part, they are dirt cheap. If you want a pair for free to play with let me know, I have an extra pair sitting around you can have.


Edit: Also, your bow is way low on Phys damage, forget added elemental damage and go for any upgrade to the phys.

When I picked this up it helped a lot.


And this was the next purchase that made a large differnece, though it was painful to give up some phys damage it was worth the 5-link.


It is like night and day when you get a bow with higher phys, and mine is still on the low end phys damage for end game as far as I can tell.

Thumbs Up for this build :) Im fairly new player out here and this ranger just became my favourite char :) Have few more mid-level's but they're nothing compared to this :)

Currently sitting on 59 and just finished merc act1 while merveill failed to take my HP lower than 2k ( 2.7k total ).

Bow kinda sucks but jsut wanted to get 6l :D

Also any advice for green gem in CoDT set? can't think of any :(
