0.9.9 Information

My comment DOES make sense. Passive skill points have nothing to do with it. If you've invested all your orbs and what not into say, elemental weapon damage gear (which is quite expensive) then you just may be pushing for a wipe.

On the real side though, I'm sick of starting over. I've been saving my fusings pretty much since the beginning of this Default League so I can finally get a couple six links this time around. I don't see myself grinding over again if they wipe. Especially with the rumbling footsteps of a large red demon drawing near. Feel me?

LOL why play closed beta if you are sick of starting over?
And you don't have to grind at all, as its closed beta, you just play to test.

A few big announcements are planned in the coming weeks (mostly regarding the upcoming patch).
;)

The purpose of a wipe isn't to reset the ladder or to force people to start over. A wipe (or in this case a Legacy migration) is being considered because there are significant balance changes being made to enemy difficulty and gear stats. All the old equipment needs to be flushed out of the system because it'll be completely unbalanced in the new patch environment. GGG doesn't want their metrics and their feedback tainted by people continuing to use prepatch gear.

The options are: a legacy migration, delete all gear in the game, somehow convert the stats and mods of existing gear to postpatch values, or just leave the old gear and deal with the tainted feedback. Deleting everyone's gear really isn't an option and would result in a lot of complaints. Converting gear takes a lot of time and effort to code a system that will only be used once and would result in a lot of complaints. A legacy migration is relatively simple for GGG to implement but it would result in a lot of complaints. Leaving everyone's gear alone is the easiest option to implement and would only result in some complaints.

All around I'm OK with a wipe, I just think that having a wipe so close to D3 - and then another wipe before Open Beta, might just cause allot of testers to quit playing until Open Beta and/or once they are done with D3.

I think a stash/inventory/skill point reset (except for skill gems) could be a decent alternative though.

But, if the gear progression is going through a massive change - then that does need to be balanced, and if doing a wipe will ensure enough people are going through it - then do what's best for the game and testing, not what is going to annoy the least number of players.
For those of who are getting sick of starting over and over; i think they shouldn't even be picked as beta testers, cause they do not deserve a "beta user" title attached to their names.

Beta testers should do their duty, this is not the process for having unlimited and endless fun, you should give accurate and valid feedbacks on a regular basis alongside playing. The priority should not be solely playing.

I'm all for a legacy move if it saves GGG resources that could be better spent on other features or getting patches out faster.

I would be extremely surprised and somewhat concerned if the system they have in place required updating each existing item when the base stats are changed. Mods could be a bit different, but surely if they are changing the scaling they can update the values to be at the same point in the range, i.e.
- 20-40% mod has been rolled at 37% for an item
- mod is rescaled to 5-35% for whatever reason
- item now has 31% modifier

If they don't have an adaptable system in place, what will they do when they want to rebalance a few item tiers or modifiers in Open Beta/Release?
We definitely need a legacy migration.
Who cares about complaints? This is beta.

Huh ?

I think some one of you didnt get the memo that this is closed beta. Wipe or total deletion can happen any day. To me it sounds like your are already playing serius lol.

Playing POE since 0.9.0
