Did GGG Purposely mispell Samnite?

You have your real answer -- it's almost certainly a typo, given Samnite is a type of gladiator and that helmet is without doubt that of a gladiator's.

Interesting that it's a typo that still has almost related meaning though, which could be why it's flown under the radar for so long.

On the other hand, MAYBE they originally intended it to be samite but given it's a heavy-type helmet, I doubt it.

Miscommunications within the office aren't exactly rare. Whoever named the item quite possibly didn't design it.

Also, compared to the staunching/stanching confusion, this one's pretty harmless.

Still, RHYS or MARK1, if you're watching, this is one for you.

(read: you might want to post this one here, fargnbastich)

I only read the first page of this so maybe someone said this but i also find this weird as the whole samnite set isnt even of armor like this one is a slik looking glove but then one is a glad helmet i think

Guessing they just messed up what item it was and never fixed it cause the other set items are all the same looking
Look, Past Me wrote that. He had little to no real concern for Present Me or suspect that I might give far less of a shit about typos in PoE. And Past Me is dead, so I can't say much other than...uh...he was a top bloke, bit of a joker, and will be sorely missed by his friend and families. RIP Past Me.

https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

I read this thread today because I was confused. I was confused why the thread title falsely claimed that Samnite was misspelled. I saw items dropped with the name, Samnite. I Google searched Samnite and it seemed to be spelled correctly. Well after reading the thread I now understand. It WAS misspelled but, no longer. HEHEHE
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

I remember looking into that. The boots and gloves are not misspelled.
