Did GGG Purposely mispell Samnite?
"samite" seems to be a theme, they have helm, gloves and boots. on the gloves/boots you can clearly tell that it's silk. if anything the graphic for the helm is wrong

"I wonder if the helmet was meant to be samnite, but there was confusion and named samite like the ES-based gloves and boots. |
|
" You really think a heavy armour helm should be made of 'luxurious silk'? Yeahnah. Mountain of a molehill here: they do have other 'samite' items and confusing this one for another of them is definitely something I can see the devs doing. VolcanoElixir is correct; this helmet is meant to be 'Samnite'. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.
Huh. My mace dude is now an actual cultist of Chayula. That's kinda wild. |

there is no "samnite" theme. the graphic is samnite but it was supposed to be samite to match the other 2 in the same category.
either way i did a google search and this was brought up 3 years ago on reddit, so yeah, i'm sure they are aware of it and are not in a hurry to fix it |

Most of those don't have 'themes'. One theme I do notice, however, is none of the others are named after a soft fabric like, say, samite. LOL. But you are at least correct that they're probably in no hurry to fix it. Considering the precarious state of the current league, the pressure to release Path of Exile 4.0 before certain competitors can get their foot in the door, and the ongoing demand to deliver an 'expansion' every 3 months...personally I don't subscribe to the notion that fixing small problems should be side-lined because you have to constantly deal with big ones, and I figure that's why they have different departments, but it does seem to be a common...theme in the game's history. Heh. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

They also recently amended the spelling of "Pernach". It was misspelled as "Pernarch" for 8 years, and then someone from the antiquities and medieval arms wing of the local museum must have seen it and set them straight.
Not to be confused with the Russian machine pistol of the same name. Which would be a welcome change for drop tables coming out of Heist! [19:36]#Mirror_stacking_clown: try smoke ganja every day for 10 years and do memory game

It could be a purposeful change, given that this is clearly a different world/history to their game, so they borrowed from our history but changed the name slightly to make it feel different.
You would have a better chance of getting an answer on Reddit unfortunately. |

" Oooh, I didn't even think of that...but I still think the fact that there is a 'samite' in the game, unchanged, and it means what it's meant to mean (silk) makes me lean towards 'typo' or 'crossed wires'. I mean, real world references exist even in Wræclast. Simple example: Hussar Brigandine. I imagine had they spelled that 'Husser' or 'Husshar' people would have called them on it too, even though there's no hard and fast rule that the real-world 'Hussar' has to be Wræclast's 'Hussar'. Basically, if your fantasy name is too close to a real one, it just looks a little on the nose. I'd say samite/samnite fits there. If you're going to call your gladiator's helm Samite *and* samite means something very much unlike the materials used to make a gladiator's helm, you might as well call the fucking thing Samnite. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

Every time I see the mention of a "Samnite" in a video game, my mind wanders off to... "Gladius."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCM0h9-M0_k Gladius a firm contender for my favorite console game of all time. It was an innovative take on "physical" combat mechanics, requiring the player to complete a complex series of button-mashes to pull of desired combat moves in a progressive timer system. Great design and highly recommended for anyone who'd got a PS2 laying around. :) PS: And, I'm sure GGG misspelled "Samnite." But, they've misspelled a lot of things like "Heist" should be spelled "ThisIsDumb" and "Blight" should be spelled "GladIDidn'tPayForThis." ;) |

You all realize that the letters we use today weren't even in existence when these people were around. Arguing about how their name is spelled is silly.
