A Community Almost Completely Devoid of Sympathy and Empathy

This is partly do to the fact that Chris treats the player base as game addicts. He said last year at GDC that if you can provide your players a steady supply of new content frequently with some kind of reset mechanism then you can get your game played forever. For PoE that means new leagues every 3 months with gear reset (fresh economy). So the PoE junkies (streamers, elites, no-lifers) are given their every 3 month fix and can race again from level 1 to 100. As with drug addicts the high excitement feeling of playing PoE wears off and GGG must increase speed and power to keep the junkies happy and coming back again in another 3 months for their next fix.

By GGG coding PoE for this goal (a new challenge league and endorphin rush every 3 months) many of the players don't give a damn other than the reset and race to 100 and go the hell away to any/all that are not speed racers which is all newbies and most of the casual players. Even the streamers do this. Some are willing to take time to answer questions from new players and casuals (I highly commend those who do) but many are of the "git gud or git out" mentality toward the lesser PoE knowledgeable players which is sad.

To be honest, GMs, I would consider it a kindness if you suspended my account.

I regret the hundreds of dollars I've donated to this company. I regret ever being corroded by the vast majority of assholes that play this game, so that now I am even more of an asshole than I ever was before playing PoE.

The level of condescension and callous, incessant ridicules and attacks among the predominant cohort within the PoE community is far too pervasive to promote any sort of mental wellness within this community.

Let's say you, for whatever reason, decide to converse with a stranger to share your ill feelings towards something misfortunate that happened to you or someone you care about. Then, that person decides--rather than to say something with respect, tact, and compassion--to say something like, "Well, you shouldn't have been so idiotic; otherwise, it wouldn't have happened."

This sort of example, as I've cited, and as can be seen in numerous threads on these forums, is the normative conduct of most players towards other players' plights.

So, yeah, I hate that, and I hate all of you smug bastards who do this sort of shit constantly. I am almost entirely embittered by your nasty, vile, relentless cruelty towards others who feel victimized or hurt, who merely want to be heard and feel supported. But, no! You wouldn't have it, would you? You would seize the opportunity to deliberately further the severity of their pain with your toxic words, which you consider to be sweet as honey but only because you lack the prudence to understand how your rhetoric is perceived by others who are not so arrogant and crude as you are.

Well, you know what, Boem, and you other trolls. I've had enough.

To suspend my account or ban me permanently would initially infuriate me because of the hundreds of hours and dollars I've invested into this game. Yet, I would eventually feel immense healing and peace because I would have been delivered from this malicious pseudo-community of "people". While it may be true that the good players outnumber the bad ones (good, meaning, humane and compassionate), the degree of the evil-doers far exceeds any good accomplished. The magnitude of cruelties is unparalleled by any good portions of this community.

Do as you wish, GMs. I am so fucking tired of all this bullshit.

I would tend to agree - except there is a caveat to this. If the new content is rubbish - then people will look elsewhere.

Personally, I think the last few leagues have offered nothing new at all, just more gated content hidden behind RNG that is poorly thought out and badly implemented. So, after many years of playing, I've effectively quit. I think I managed to get a couple of character into act 4 or 5 before deciding its just too much trouble.

Knowing that what is said (as long as it isn't a GGG code of conduct violation) has no personal repercussions can embolden some players to be more toxic in their on-line verbiage.

No one really should be expecting a "Robert's Rules of Order" type of communication in any online forum but it isn't doing any good to be toxic and nasty to anyone that does post, no matter how ignorant on playing PoE they are. At some point in the past we all were newbies and ignorance about PoE.
