what programming language(s) do the devs at GGG use to develop PoE?

edit: i actually found a "respectful" question:
i'm a cs student with a focus on algorithms and high performance computing so i'm always interested in solutions to problems that look easy to solve, but are actually very tricky if efficiency has priority. a long time ago you let one of your engineers write some details about how water is rendered (link). would it be possible to have something like this on other parts of the game? of course, lots of these details are a trade secret and a competitive advantage. but you could just go into explaining some parts of the game in depth from a tech point of view. like, Jonathan said in some baeclast that the game doesn't roll rares until they are picked up. i find this very clever and interesting and would be interested in more tales of poe optimization. What technology stack would a programmer need to have experience in to have a good chance getting a job at GGG?
For instance I am a back-end c# developer who works on server/cloud corporate applications. I know you use DirectX and C++ but do you have a detailed description of the stack you guys are using? Cheers, and keep up the good work, looking forward to Exilecon. | |
I love most aspects of the game and I believe that most "problems" with the game (like trading, overly complicated mechanics, etc) are subjective to the player. But to me there is one thing that is objectively bad about the game and thats character models/animations, especially for playable classes.
I have never played a Templar or a Duelist becouse they have either horrible character models (Templar having dinosaur-like necks for example) and Duelist having horrible animations (please take a look at the running animation, looks like PS1/90's pc games animation). Im pretty sure a lot of new players are put off from playing the game becouse of how outdated the overall graphics look, mostly on the starting areas/early levels of the game. So my question is: Do you have any plans on doing major improvements to the graphics or animations to the game? |

My questions: 1. Within the design process, is there a consideration for how satisfying it is to kill a particular monster? 2. How much effort is devoted on making unique and memorable monster death animations / sounds? 3. What are the challenges you face when developing monster death animations / sounds considering the amount of monsters on the screen and how quickly people clear these days? 4. Do other effects such as shatter and MTXs limit design space of monster death animations / sounds? This is an aspect that I wish would receive more attention for existing monsters. Currently, there are only a few memorable death animations / sounds with a majority of them being overshadowed by everything else happening on the screen. One of the reasons I can go back and enjoy D1 and D2 is because it feels very satisfying to kill monsters in that game largely due to the sounds and animations they make. Personally hearing a monster die in anguish feels very good, but I'm not a sadist! Thanks for listening! | |

Hey.
Are you contented with how the mechanics from the previous leagues are interrupting the flow of mapping/gameplay or not? Because from a player perspective it's quite annoying. Thanks. Quit after Legion, rejoined PoE to see what the game's like now in 3.12.
