Really disapointed in no news for melee aswell? its been gutted for sometime now :(

Both Soulrend and Bane are their own skills. Neither interacts with each other, or with Contagion. They simply showed them in the same vid to show how you can use Bane to apply curses, but it has no particular synergy with Soulrend (apart from also being a chaos DoT and so benefiting from the same passive nodes). As for melee reworks, Bex mentioned on Reddit that it's scheduled for 3.7.

Been a fan of the Chaos skills ever since I started playing the game (with Essence Drain)!!!

There is nothing else as pure and purple and amazing as Chaos skills and I can't wait to try the new ones out!

So, what the OP indicates is that to fully gain benefit of soul rend we'll want to couple it with essence drain and (or?) perhaps contagion.

This will be marvelous for those who can afford two Poet's Pens with one spell in each wand (with a multi proj gem and projectile speed gem).
For self casters it's going to be a finger wrencher... which many skill combos are even now, granted.

Soulrend is its own skill. It has no synergy with either Essence Drain or Contagion, apart from also being a chaos DoT and so benefiting from the same passive nodes. Contagion doesn't spread it like it does ED. It has implicit pierce and homes in on enemies, so just stack more projectiles for clearing.
I will try it.I love chaos builds.:)

When enemies are hit by the projectile they'll take a small amount of chaos damage and grant a large amount of Energy Shield Leech (4% at all gem levels).

The ES leech is applied by the hit, which is "small?" What good is that, even if it had 50% leech?
Can DoT effects leech now or what? I don't understand this.

Essence drain already has "leech" from DoT (it doesn't leech from initial hit).
essence drain with piercing ? :)
So basically Soulrend = reworked ED, but with free pierce and ES leech instead of regen?
So for Bane having the Curse tag it should synergise with the new gloves and trigger the curses equipped there, if Bane is equipped in a weapon for example?!

If it works like that, will it still get the dmg benefit from applying a curse?
I like the ED and blight changes. In general the chaos skills were annoying in that they all seemed to depend on the others if you wanted to min/max.

The new skills sound good too. The only place I really see chaos lagging now is in the resistance penetration. I know there are a few ways but something like a support gem and a node or two on the tree would be nice instead of limiting it to a curse and an ascendancy.
