Time Capsule from PoE Closed Beta -- a classic PoE vs D3 thread circa 2012

What? A skilltree is just a grid in which skills are located in a logical order, and you can then put points into them to increase nothing but their damage.

You really, honestly think that's hard to do?

Please man, stop acting like troll. Yes, its harder to do, than having the system like in d3 (AND I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT GRAPHIC AND ANIMATION). It's pretty hard to design a good skill tree. Also only increase dmg? Lol. So if there is skill tree, all skils will have only increse in dmg? Lol. Even d2 didnt have it like you said. Also man please, designing skills and skill tree are 2 different things, both are hard.

Yep, dividing the skills into linear lines while gaining nothing but passive bonuses by putting points into them is extremely hard to do. On the other hand, making multiple variations on every skill in the game each with different effects, numbers, and animations attached to them is a ridiculously easy task.

Don't bother replying. If you do, I won't respond because this discussion is just you saying 'no' without anything to back it up.

Apart from just a very simplistic gear stats, how can you customize your character in Diablo 3 anymore?

If you don't account the gear in PoE, this is what a single Poison Arrow skill will show, there is not a single other person who has the same exact Poison Arrow as I do.

There are two sets of stats, one on the upper right and one in the "Offence" tab lower in the picture. See the massive list of effects it can have? I have not even modded the Poison Arrow that much in the example. Now...how much can you customize your skills in Diablo 3 if you don't account the simple gear stats the game has? Not at all, you get all the skills and runes as you level and every single one of them are exactly like everyone else has, only way to customize your build in D3 is through gear, and that gear is extremely simple in terms of effects and stats they can have.

Now take this mundane yellow bow that I have

It has more base stats than Diablo 3 gear with magic effects on them. Sure there are some items in D3 that have an amazing amount of total 5 effects on it, but those are the top end-game gear in D3.
If I'd ever got a chance to make a game, it would definitively not cater to the players that want the game to change instead of themselves improving in it.

There's one thing that I don't agree. Most of stats do the same thing, increse dmg. I would like to see somthing more in PoE than dmg and resist.

About skill gems, there are a lot of ways to customize them than in d3, but the problem is that there animation and graphic is not changing like in d3.

While that is true (well 6 are directly damage and 11 other stats), even the damages do a slightly different thing. Where fire can burn and do twice the damage, cold can snare and freeze, lightning can shock and chaos goes through energy shields. Combined with support gems the non-damage stats could become even bigger than 11, with life leech, mana leech, projectile speed, piercing, mana reduction, cast reduction, making certain abilities as traps, attack speed and other support gems that I don't know of or hasn't been implemented yet.

Diablo 2, and 3 both have those same stats you see in the poison arrow window, but it just isn't shown under the tab of the skill itself. I don't see the difference really.

Also, Diablo 2 endgame gear trumps any gear in POE statwise, both giving more power, more stats in general, and crazier stats. Diablo 3 will offer the same thing.
So really, I'm not sure what you're getting at.

PS: The bow you are showing is for lvl 40. The max level in the D3 beta is 13.

tl;dr
:)
tl;dr
:)
Comparing this to D3 is inappropriate and a BIG insult to Blizzard.

This game could've been a competitor 10 years ago for D2, but it will still lose out in terms of story, lore and gameplay mechanics.

The only plus point about poe is slightly better graphics, other than that, meh.
You mad?

#So you compare a full game by the old gods Blizz North,to not fully developed gate without years of balancing and adding content?

PS: The bow you are showing is for lvl 40. The max level in the D3 beta is 13.

#And now you turn it around and point out that comparing the games is not right since D3 beta is not as big as PoE beta ?

hmm ... first we compare D2 .. to PoE ... then we say ... you cannot compare PoE to D3 , almost like it would be unfair ... but comparind D2 to PoE bets isn´t.

I feel you are tripping over yourself here, take a stance and stick to it.

You can´t eat it and have the cake left on the table boy :)

And for myself , Blizzard North was flawless in my eye´s

"new" Blizzard is just a shadow of it´s great "old" self

what the ... why is all bold ?

Edit: found the excessive boldness and fixed it for you. Hope you don't mind the edit.

In the future please refrain from calling random people on the internet 'boy' as my time with league of legends has made me consider that an insult.

Anyway, comparing D2 with POE doesn't matter in this instance, because he was referring to POE (in it's current state) gear having more stats. All I meant was, diablo 2 had items with more / crazier stats, so will D3.

Also just as a sidenote.. I think the expression you were looking for is 'You can't have your cake and eat it too' :P

Edit: Accidentally posted everything in the same style as you did, not sure how to undo it >.<

Edit 2 (Skivverus): Fixed it, 's okay now.
