POE is not a FREE TO PLAY

I've played this game for...well, I don't even know...~five years without ever throwing a cent at it.

Racked up 2200+ hours.

Always played a self imposed solo-self found mode just because buying gear makes it weird for me, it takes away the fun, up until they introduced the actual ssf leagues. Then I've played those since then.

Threw $20 at it for the first time at the beginning of the last league for the sole purpose of getting the tab bundle (six tabs, I think?) and an additional currency tab when they were on sale, but had real life stuff take up a bunch of my time so I didn't get to play the game much.

Anyways, I did the multi-storage-only-alt-characters thing for over 2000 hours of playing.

Never had an issue.

It's easy.

From the op's screenshot alone, I can say 90+% of the uniques he's hanging on to are vendor garbage. Ditch (almost) all the cards, they're worthless. Ditch all the essences, they're worthless.

Boom, 95% of that screenshot is now open inventory.

I wish I could have gotten a map, card, essence, and whatever other specialty tabs with that $20 worth of points during the sale, but meh.

$20 for 2200+ hours of gameplay? Yeah, that's free to play in my book.

PoE is not free to play. Last mandatory thing to buy was map tab. Those who say its not mandatory are imo insane and I would take no advice from them, ever.

POE is not a charity company.

Since it's a very good game where you can spend 1000+ hours, it's worth buy some stash tabs, and you can decide how many of them, based on the comfort you want to have.

take a look at your games library, check hours spent/price of your other games, take some conclusion.

At least in POE you can take a character at the end of act10 and start the Atlas, without the need of buying any tabs. If you like the game, you go on, if you don't, you quit, for free ;)
They have to somehow make money, a lot of times there are stash tabs sales which you can just buy and help support game and you won't have to worry anymore about space. I brought all special tabs during the sale and I don't regret it.
Yep, I have spent only $20 for a currency tab and a premium tab and like 4 or 5 regular tabs. Do I want/need more, like a map or fragment tab? Of course. But I have hundreds of hours in for only $20, that's still a pretty good deal. And during the next tab sale, i'll probs break down and get that map tab at the least lol. Supporting a game you can play for years and for hundreds of hours is not a bad thing imo.

Compare it with a similar-ish game that continues to make "season"-type content... Destiny 2. You have to buy Destiny 2= $60. You have to buy the season passes to even play each "season/expansion"= $20/$30. so after a few seasons you're over $100 dollars in. Now, if you go crazy on MTXs you can easily go WAY over that in POE, but you don't HAVE to do that. You can play easily enough-ish for totally free, and completely comfortably for $20-$40 on tabs.

There has only been 1 game ever that was *free to play* and it no longer exists

I dont remember what the game was but what i read was something like the maker ran it without getting money to run the server and it didnt have a cashshop of any kind

...Maybe thats why it isnt running today because he couldnt pay for the server for that long :P (but i think the game was made in the 1980s or 90s so yeah)
i know is hard without Job = No Money... Ask Parents for pocket money

I'm going to assume you aren't aware what "mandatory" means, so allow me to help with a dictionary definition.

Mandatory -
adjective
1.
required by law or rules; compulsory.

Now, seeing as how I personally played Path of Exile for hundreds of hours without buying a map tab, it cannot, by definition, be mandatory. If it were ACTUALLY mandatory, then I would not have even been able to start a character without buying it.

It is, without a doubt, extremely helpful and I don't regret buying one after several hundred hours of play. But that would still emphasize the point that it is not mandatory, but rather a strong QoL improvement.

Those who would say it is are, imo, not necessarily insane but definitely mistaken. As to whether or not I would take advice from said people, that would depend on the advice.
GGG brings every league a content update bigger than a full prize Diablo Expansion where u have to pay 40€ f.e..

I paid about 60€ so faar for i think 12 premium stash tabs and all the currency, cards, essence, maps, etc....and this in a period of 4 years, means 15€/year. (simply watch out for sales ;) )

You cant tell me that you cant affor 15€/year....even homeless people can afford this.

And it was worth every cent bcs its the best game in this genre and the developer are the best out there in term of content updates.

When I watch back to Diablo 3....I spent there 120€ and theres no real upddate since 1 year.

Long talk short sense...if you like the game its worth to spend about 40€ into tabs....for this prize you wont find a better game out there in this gerne atm. ;)
