I appreciate GGG improving PoE graphical capabilities. I still think it would be better to work on new engine from scratch rather than add new features to the old engine, which still has performance issues despite all those years of optimization.
Point Light Shadows (PLS) look impressive in the demonstration but I do not see how this would make any significant impact on the game and how it is perceived. Lot of people play with shadows turned off and even if shadows are on they are the least element to draw player's attention due to tons of other stuff happening on the screen. Global Illumination (GI) is on the other hand looking very impressive. GI absolutely has potential to improve visuals of the game. Those dynamic light sources that can illuminate terrain looked great. My only issue with the demonstration was that the game was set to be very very dark. This heightened the effect beyond what normal player would experience because no one is playing PoE on such dark setting unless they are asking for a swift death. All in all, solid changes where one must hope overall game performance wont be impacted. | |
" Well. Diablo 3 has also no grafical effect. It only looks good through the artwork. The objects are simple - much sumpler mashes than POE today. It only works "good" looking through the hand drawn texture. No Bumpmapping, no reflection map, no weapon effect like the supporter Effects. Just some polygone with handdrawn stuff on it. | |
