Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games

Selling out to a Chinese company that promotes "social credit scores" certainly leaves a bad impression...
Still in the alpha stage, but at least build diversity isn't an issue: https://wolcengame.com/home/

Yes, lots of people who posted here will stop buying supporter packs. In rebut to the very real feeling expressed by this decision, there's the argument that if you stop supporting GGG then things will go south fast as Tencent will put the squeeze on if they aren't making the profit they seek.

I get the argument, but I'm not buying it. Probably a tiny portion of any game's player base reads the forums. An even smaller portion read gaming news on gaming sites such as MMORPG or Massively Overpowered. Bottom line, only a small portion of players will hear that Tencent now owns GGG.

While this news resonates with those of us who have cheered on GGG since the (near) beginning, to most who play PoE it will mean little or nothing and will not affect in any way their decision to spend money on the game or not. That's many tens of thousands of PoE players who don't know and don't care about Tencent who potentially will be happy to drop bucks in the cash shop. The doom about how the few hundred who posted here will sink the PoE ship if they stop buying 'supporter' packs is overblown to say the least.

Moreover, PoE is already in the huge China market, so whether anyone outside of China supports the game is likely immaterial to its success so long as it is successfully marketed there.
Arise the birth of another great game turned pay to win And slowly die as the player base leaves
If you guys ever get together the cash, I really hope you buy back your stake.

I know Tencent has a reputation for not messing with their devs' product. I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about you guys disappearing. Lots of people who don't know or care what the word "investment" means are going to want to buy less stuff from you now that you're not an indie dev they need to support for the warm fuzzies anymore. "You've got all that Tencent money, how dare you?"

If sales drop enough because of this, you'll get liquidated. Scary.
Furthermore, the Trade Manifesto delenda est.

Bone Mommy did nothing wrong. I want to join the Syndicate.
A thing to consider: Many of us westerners left with a bad taste in the mouth, for whatever reason (Tencent as a Chinese company, or their support of a social credit system bringing about an Orwellian world, or "selling out" - side note here, this is the least valid argument I've read so far; we should encourage developers to get investors to make their games better - etc...) we haven't considered one very important thing. GGG won't need our support when this game is marketed to Chinese gamers. Their numbers are enormous. If the same percentage of Chinese gamers supports this game as the current percentage of PoE gamers, GGG will make what? Triple what they make now? Do they even need to cater to their current support base when such a huge market is on the horizon? So all this "I won't support PoE any more" is a great protest on your end, certainly do it. I don't think we have to worry about GGG. They won't lose money. I won't support any more - thats on me - but I'll play because I love this game and GGG won't lose a cent.
very disappoint of this move , knowing this move i will never support this game and maybe a lot of us , so i feel B E T R A Y E D , sure now the game will change and microtransactions also
sure now tencent will have a share , i feel ggg liar to us and sell is soul , this is my opinion thank you , btw this topic are always hard to find in these forum

Well, 'GGG' Chris Wilson, you just diged your own grave! The greed for money and corruption strikes yet another great game. See you in 2-3 years when you have to grind 10 years to lvl 80-90 or you have the marvelous way to boost yourself with money. Hope they will force GGG to make MTX's tradable on steam, at least I will make some bucks back out of it and let the game rot in oblivion.

oh no not the guy who made it to level 92 in standard i guess u spent a lot of time in poe
The real background of this deal is:
GGG runs out of money, because a.) the few known streamers buy "some" supporter_packs here and there [but not enough]; b.) new players dont buy enough, because they quit the game because of outrage complexity; c.) the prices of the MTX's are sky-rocketing!
Be aware: ONE armour-pack costs you more than a whole popular game out there. And the most reason is, that the game is NOT balanced. => stupid one_shot_machanics; shitty bosses; shitty map_design!! And all over that: you have to study mechanics and boss_fights before U enter a map!.... NOTHING in this game is intuitif!! Portals, ground_effects, AoE's, Rigwalds Shit, etc. etc. will kill you unless you have read a guide. In another words: THAT IS A BAD GAME DESIGN ! And what does GGG to compensate this: adding more complexity, unpredictibility, and incomprehensibility to this game. How far should this go? P.S.: does Chris Wilson know the saying: sometime less is more! P.P.S.: making so many bad dicisions in the past (not knowing his gane anymore), I would have fired C.Wilson! P.P.P.S.: I ever had to laugh, whenever C.Wilson speaks about challenging fights!. => Enjoy the 1-shot-mechanic!
