This event is definitely manipulated and you and me and so many others are being manipulated too. It's the same thing with the "up to 80% discount" on the sales and the 1 hour deals. I definitely see a pattern there, don't you?

GGG wants to make the most profit after all, they ran the numbers and figured out that being vague and "exploiting" (putting it in quotes because people will say that you have a choice) their players pays off.

If i look at this: https://sullygnome.com/game/Path_of_Exile/14/summary i see that viewers are a constant high. I assume if someone got his hat, he would close twitch short after.

This is just a big marketing move. This was not intented for the community, this was made to make the game more popular. I don't blame them tho, it's a good marketing move, however I do not work there so I don't appreciate it.

By making people watch streamers play POE, the game climbs the "most watched games" ladder meanwhile on twitch. It's totally unnecessary for the players, because to most of us, it's muted and minimized.
However, I don't belive it's 1%. I think it's way less, or at least manipulated in a way, so most users will get the MTX as late as possible. It would not be profitable for GGG if most players stopped watching POE streams because they got their hats.

I have a strong feeling I hit the nail in the head with this theory.

Since most people have a stream open on 160p minimized and muted, how is it any different than view botting?

35+ hours without being tagged as afk by twitch (orange status which desactivate drops for you) and still nothing, judging by the number of people still waitingfor the drops the 8.33h isn't the average time at all.
