We don't assume we have 100% chance. We assume we have 1% chance every 5 minutes, and have been streaming for days. I'm happy to wait for my hat if the system is working. We're trying to establish if this is the case.

We don't assume we have 100% chance. We assume we have 1% chance every 5 minutes, and have been streaming for days. I'm happy to wait for my hat if the system is working. We're trying to establish if this is the case.
Well...some people got their hat. So i assume it's working :D

Maybe because it's dishonest? If I told you that in all likelihood if you watched a POE streamer for 8 and a half hours, to support spreading the word of the game , that you would be rewarded with a free helmet.....but then you and thousands of other people didn't get it in triple that time or more, how would that make you feel?
It's clear as day it's not being doled out in 8 and a half hours as they claim, the numbers are still around 10k and continue to be that high. On it's surface it's a kindness, and below it, it's using the playerbase to give them free advertisement to sell more mtx for the game.
If they'd have asked to do this honestly and with a clear cut reward, I'dve had no problem keeping their numbers boosted for the week or so. As is, they're using us and I do not appreciate it, by the looks of it many others don't either.

I would prefer an 8% chance every hour over a 1% chance ever 5 minutes. But really why not just bump it up to 10% per hour? Why are we being forced to eat so many vegetables (watching streams) before we can have our desert (useless hat)? lol
I'm just really wondering why they picked 1% per 5 minutes? Why do they want such a high degree of variance as that? It really says something about the way the designers in this game think about probability and reward.
There is a quantum level to probability that implies that 1% chance of something happeneing for a person could just as well = 0% chance
I'm just wondering why 1%.

I don't think you truly grasp probability theory at all. You are correct in stating there's never a 100% chance for this. But the "slight" chance is wrong. For every 5 minutes there's always a significantly high chance of not getting a hat. But over the course of many "rolls", there's eventually a significantly high chance of getting the hat, provided the 1% chance each 5 minutes is accurate information from GGG. But, like with any random number, there's always a chance to never get a hat, even if that chance is nominal over time.

That part is worth noting! :-) People are creating anxiety over 2 days of stream watching, when in fact we have so much more time to go. Even though I feel GGG's promotion is pretty damn underhanded, we shouldn't freak out about the chances portion of this subject.

Obviously you are quite a fan of GGG judging by the laundry list of supporter banners on your title bar. That is quite a lot of money to the company. Good for them and good for you. However, just because you shelled out a pile of cash to GGG doesn't give you the right to come into a PUBLIC forum and cast your judgement on how we utilize this forum. If we feel there is a potential problem with a given system, then this is really the only input to voice those concerns. To sit there on your throne and cast dispersion's such as "stop whining" and "little privileged kids", although might make you feel superior, only makes you a douche bag.
See how I cast that dispersion in my last sentence? That was put there intentionally to make a point. And for the record, it did make me feel better to call you a douche bag, so I can see the appeal of why you do it.
