WHAT WILL I SPEND CHAOS ON IF THERES AN AUCTION HOUSE???

um you could have purchased something better on PoE.trade for way way less lol
Not on SSF though. ;)

well yeah but the whole discussion is about an auction house so SSF is really not relevant
I dont see any any key!

Yes trading in poe is aggravating at times but that is ok because once in a while you get those sweet bro deals and also can rip off noobs

An auction house will solve 1 problem while creating a zillion more

Dont do it

You have so little faith in GGG that you think they can't make a better AH than D3s ah.

When will people finally stop using D3 as an argument against an AH and use actual arguments.

many people use actual arguments, maybe you just choose to not look at them ? whats ironic is that then you go turn to WoW as an argument. wow.

the actual argument that insta buyouts are detrimental to the modern arpg genre, which heavily and almost solely depends on gear.

the acquisition of gear is arguably the most important part in an arpg. without gear there is no diabloid arpg. MMORPGs can and do survive without gear or with generic gear. diabloid arpgs cannot - without gear they are arcade games. and if you get perfect gear, you pretty much 'win the game'. its nearly a self-evident truth.

now lets look at means of obtaining gear in poe. in general the most efficient method is the one that yields the lowest time played to acquire a piece of desired gear.

already because of clear speed meta bullshit its WAY more profitable to farm for currency and not pick up drops (again, a quintessential feature of diabloid arpgs) and then buy item needed. it was already like that for some build-defining uniques but its now also like that even for shitty leveling rares.

and if there is autobuyout, there is a ratio at which flipping items on AH is way more efficient than even grinding for currency (which was definitely even more efficient back when clear speed wasnt pronounced). good flippers/bots can easily achieve that ratio and then more. which then devalues the whole point of the game and we arrive at situation where the best way to play the game (acquire items) is to not play the game (but play AH instead)

d3 has nothing to do with this, thousands of people playing simultaneously and producing thousands of items has everything to do with it.
in fact, when d3 did the whole ah analysis, one of the main points was that people didnt have an incentive NOT to put up most the items theyve got on AH. thus, you had items cheaply available to you in a second that otherwise would take you hours to grind for. unfortunately while their analysis was spot on, they've decided to go to complete other direction and basically gave you all the drops in span of several hours to appease a casual player.

in poe this incentive USED to be incovenience. if you get a half-shitty rare youd have to log onto forums and post your shitty rare on there. now, not so much. but ironically, this means that we actually need to go BACK to more stone age, not forward. because right now poe.trade is very close to an automated buyout AH and there are tons of bots floating around.

I enjoyed WoW's auction house.

once again, very ironic; not only do you repeat the d3 comparison you dont like, but you make it even worse by using a genre that is VERY different than arpg. the more skill a game has, the less impactful is an auction house and items in general. just like IRL, being all decked out in brand name gear wont give you hops or ability to shoot a basketball any better, all the items in the world wont give you a chance against a pro CS:GO player. and diabloid arpgs have some of the least skills required out of all game genres out there. auction houses in games where other things than gear matter, are passable. auction houses with autobuyouts in online games where gear is pretty much the ONLY distinguishing factor make the AH game the most efficient game. and as we all know, many poe players will always play something thats most efficient.

Maybe it's the SSF'er in me, but gear doesn't mean much to me. I just want to play the game. Gear is a means to an end, not the end.

I'd actually prefer a marketplace like ragnarok online and everquest had. Could just go to a marketplace and have fun browsing different items everywhere.
The difference most people want is to have an offline/afk trading feature. So we don't have to wait days until someone pops online again.

With a market, it'd still be sufficiently difficult to find a good deal, but there'd be options at least.

this + let us just grab items out of stashes for a price ffs...
Tala Moana Warrior!
I think the premium stash tab way to trade in POE is just fine atm and shouldnt be fiddle'd with .

Lets say GGG do add AH into the game and premium stash tabs became obsolete , that would annoy a lot of players that bought premium tabs I would think ?

Also , other people are saying that if an AH were brought in to POE , that some players may simply stop playing the game and start trading all day instead , this imho is bad for POE .

It would fracture the community forever , if they brought AH in and then decided to remove , imagine the uproar

Imagine the drama ! How would all the market jews survive this atrocity !!

POE is an ARPG , NOT a trading simulator !!!!

I also support the idea of going to a players hideout and buying from his stash/an NPC. The player needs to be online. We could have a command like '/visithideout PlayerX' that we could copy paste from 'poe.trade'. I think this would be the next step to make trading a little better, while not having a huge impact on the economy. What I would also love about such an implementation is that you would still have to visit other players hideouts, which I love.

As a downside to such an implementation, we could have 20 people all trying to buy one item, which could be hilarious when all people would crash your ho by spamming spells. Some sort of queue system would also need to be implemented.
