Started happening after I was built enough to sufficiently splatter mobs of a decent size. When I engage with the mobs (using Sunder) I will either get brief freezes or a solid freeze and crash. This happens roughly every 15 minutes. After three CTD's in the middle of three consecutive Incursions, here I finally am.

Going to look at "Engine Multithreading" (@ graphics) as suggested. Hopefully, that will work. Will update if it does.

Update I
In Documents -> My Games -> Path of Exile opened "production_Config"
Found "engine_multithreading_mode=enabled"
Changed to "engine_multithreading_mode=disabled"

Update II
The change has remedied the crashing issue. However, at the moment where it feels like I would have crashed, there is a significant hitch in the action. A few thousand damage worth. No worries here. Just glad the crashing stopped. But, watch out for the hitch if you're playing Hardcore.

THANK YOU - this is immeasurably better!
I was wondering; if any of you have a Killer/Qualcomm Aetheros network adapter and have Windows 10 with Fall Creators Update installed.

I have discovered that the driver is causing serious issues after the Fall Creators update (and/or build 1803). So it might be your guys current issue too.

Please check and report back if you have those network adapters (mine is onboard Killer E2200).

EDIT: Seems other drivers are failing as well. My onboard soundcard drivers are also f**ked.

So do you guys also have MSI boards that are a little older?
I have the MSI Z97 Gaming 7.

I'd just like to chime in and say that I too am experiencing constant client crashes and lock-ups specially when changing/loading maps. Here are some of the system error messages generated after a crash:

So i'm guessing everyone here gave up? :D
I haven't even been playing this game barely an hour and now it wont even load to character screen,..just crashed when i went to create another character and keeps having the same error after updater closes: pathofexile_x64.exe has stopped working. Looks like they have no clue how to fix this as I have read this post and see that a majority of the issue started about a year and a half ago with no fix. It's obviously not a hardware issue, its a programmer issue.

With multithreading on i keep getting crashes randomly while in maps, sometimes once an hour, sometimes in 10 minutes. Mostly game just crash w/o any error, but sometimes there are popping up a lot of message with dx11 errors.
I keep having the game close and return to desktop every 10-30mins. This error message is reported in event viewer :-

The thing is this bug completely screws windows 10 as all other games will hang on startup if I don't do a reboot.

But I think I might have nailed down the bug, seems it could be related to MSAA, I turned it off and I was able to play over the 30 mins with no random closing - I need to do more testing to confirm this (I'm playing in 4k with all setting max - I had MSAA set to 4x)

I filed a bug with NVidia as it could be related to the driver 398.82 (gfx card is 1080ti).

Update - It is not the msaa option, game still crashes so I am stumped.

Update 2 - Ok it seems to be related to multicore support. I disabled that and had no crash in about 2h session.

I have the same crash problem. At first I thought it was because of changed in the full screen/windowed mode so I fiddled around with that but it was in vain. Same with the direct X settings. It's such a bummer to see how this error still persists. I'm playing on WIN10 and with an Nvidia graphics card and I've seen a lot of posts here that say that it might be something to do with the graphics drivers. I'm going to run some updates and check the drivers and settings.
If I find anything, I'll be sure to let you know!

Specs:
Win 10 x64
IntelCore i5-4440
Nvidia Geforce GT653
Geforce game ready driver (after update) 399.07

EDIT:
I realised that the game crashed every time I ran it through steam. So instead of booting it through steam I tried to do so via the Geforce Experience centre. Apart from long loading times and some initial hiccuping while the game was loading all it's assets, I haven't had a single disconnect yet while level transitioning. Maybe this might be something worth looking in to?
