Donald Trump and US politics

Honestly, if I lived in the US, I think I'd start a crowd funding project to create an hospital (one to start with) that would be a non-profit institution.

The building and work materials could all be obtained through donations. The medical costs would be exactly what the hospital has to spend to treat the patients. There would also be up to 2 free medical visits for bi-yearly check-ups. All of which could be financed through donations (it would end up far cheaper on the population to donate a little bit than be at the mercy of the for profit hospitals.

That kind of model would also attract more doctors than traditional US hospital since the wages of doctors wouldn't be affected but a lot of them want to help the people and they'd do it better in such conditions.

It's a pipe dream I suppose but I think it would be possible.

It is not a pipe dream. The Catholic Church (and a few others) have successfully done something similar to this for this for centuries.

That's the sort of insane wishful thinking that, if you suffer from too much, leads you to suffer the terrible mental affliction known as libertarianism. "Charity will take care of all problems!" "If we give businesses all the power, they'll only do nice things because bad things are unprofitable!" "Governmental protections actually lead to people being less protected!"

It'd be great if absurdly wealthy people would be willing to use that absurd wealth to help the less fortunate. Most don't, though. For every billionaire who converts their fortune into the well-being of others, you have dozens who don't. It doesn't get much better as you go down the wealth slope, either. The characteristics that make people rich seldom overlap with the characteristics that make people charitable.

We need socialized medicine. That's how we can help those in need. The thing holding us back is that the political party based on being an evil asshole keeps trying to pass "healthcare" bills that take away people's healthcare while slashing taxes on the rich. Do you really think a country where roughly half the voting population regularly votes for those evil assholes can have hospitals survive on charity? Ha.

Well yes, The Catholic Church runs hospitals that survive on charity, as do some other churches.

Spoiler
Because they do.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

Whoops, forgot why I came to this thread in the first place!

I'm a little disappointed right now. I had it on excellent authority from our friends over at T_D that either Hillary, Podesta, or both were getting indicted this morning. Imagine my surprise when it was Manafort and one of his lackeys instead!

Don't worry, though. The top Trumpling minds are currently working hard to uncover exactly how Manafort was a secret Podesta agent all along. I'm looking forward to finding out the details soon.

Also, I was really hoping for Don Jr. or Kushner, based on Mueller's habit of going after families. Soon enough, I guess. So many corrupt, evil assholes, so little time.

I'm not aware of a single hospital in the US that operates purely on charity. There's also a massive difference between there being some charitable organizations that provide healthcare and charitable organizations providing sufficient healthcare nationwide to help all those who need help. This libertarian delusion might feel good, but it's still pure fantasy like the rest of their inane ideas about libertarian utopias.

We would not get a nationwide network of hospitals in this libertarian, charity-fueled wonderland. The people most in need of medical assistance still couldn't afford to pay for their treatment under faerwin's model. It's a busted idea from top to bottom.

Socialized medicine is what we need.

What does this have to do with the Catholic Church running charities & hospitals in the USA?

Is not that what you were inquiring about? The possibility of a charitable hospital in the USA?

Read the original post by Faerwin, that should help clear up your confusion.

Good lord, man. Really? I was very clearly talking about two completely different things in those posts. How could you possibly not understand that? I talk about people's lack of reading comprehension skills often, but that's just fucking shameful.
