There were not there in PoE pre-Ascendancy, which makes it out of the point here.
Now, you could say that the monsters at higher level are being buffed because of ascendancy, it would make the game pre-Ascendancy-like more difficult.

This is true. Though from my point of view it's kind of like saying "You can play tennis without using your backhand, it would just make the game more difficult." While true, it is not something that I really want to do.

Then don't say you wish you could play pre ascendency again if you mean you want to play pre ascendency but with all the good stuff ascendency added.

I would love to play pre-ascendancy without the ascendancy points.

edit: Nothing has been released since Ascendancy comes even close to making up for the huge step backwards taken by forcing me to play that boring, irritating, tedious, and not fun Labyrinth.

Likewise. I would even prefer pre-ascendancy plus a lab without ascendancy points for those who enjoy running the lab for loot and enchants. But, as implemented, the Ascendancy Expansion was a backward step for PoE.

And suggestions that a satisfactory solution for players who dislike the lab is to play without ascendancy points (as, in fact, I do on the fairly infrequent occasions that I play at all) are completely ridiculous. I'm guessing that none of the people who make that suggestion choose to play without ascendancy points themselves.

So if you want to play without ascendency, what is stopping you? The fact that other people have ascendency?

I occasionally do play without ascending. I have started one new character in the Prophecy league and two in standard. Besides that I have not started any other new characters since the Ascendancy release. Two of the new characters I did the normal, cruel and merciless ascensions. The other I never ascended. When I do play now, I play only my existing character in standard. The character I play in standard now was ascended via the freebie granting of characters that had defeated merciless Malachai previous to Ascendancy release. Now I have completed some map trials and may eventually get the 7th & 8th ascendancy points. The map trials though have taken the horribleness of labyrinth and beefed it up to make it extra boring, irritating, tedious and not fun, so not sure I'll ever finish that.



From my point of view, playing a character that is so sub-optimal as to not get the ascendancy points is just not fun. Getting the ascendancy points is not fun either so I just don't play as much.

Seems like the weirdest time to alienate your audience. Especially with a lot of bubbling under the surface regarding Diablo 4 and all, and if Overwatch has shown anything, it's that Blizzard is trying to recapture their old audience.

Let's not beat around the bush here - people who play POE are D2 fans. So if people want to play shitty flappy bird, good for them. If the same audience has grown to enjoy eating shit for others to be paid to eat shit, good for them.

I just find it such an odd design decision to alienate your audience for no reason. Not even souls games do this. Remember the last time a souls game had mandatory invasions and mandatory PVP? No because it doesn't work that way. It's not relevant to the main game and therefore they don't force people to do it. I PVP a shitload in souls games, so before shitlords starts stroking their Epeen let's just cut that argument off early.
