How to turn off the background loading properly if you have performance issues

Seems to be working but I still login in less than 10 secs. So, no change except no stutter or 2 fps drop when using a skill.

Thanks Chris.
doesn't work. games crashes on GGG window so it's like 5 mins earlier than before [ frozen town ]
I use Steam @Chris
Thank you to you and your team for the amazing job on this amazing game!
Hyped/Fished the entire community before 2.3 about performance improvements.
Released 1 patch each day since results for players overall got worse or no improvements.
And now adding a patch to get back to 2.2 :D.

All these people who supported before patch and have to use this option must be happy with these improvements u didn't bring to them then.

Thanks for all, keep up the good work.

game works fine here with standard settings. loading times are amazing. i think a ssd is standard even for most work pc's now and a 780gtx should be stated as the minimum requirement to play the game

Absolutely not, these are the standard for POE :

Minimum:
OS: Windows XP SP3/Vista/Windows 7/8
Processor: x86-compatible 1.4GHz or faster processor
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800 GT or ATI Radeon™ X1950 Pro or better
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 5 GB available space

Same, I don't know how to edit the shortcut...
This didn't help much. Still having massive lag spikes every time I fire off my kinetic blast at a mob.
@Steam people:

Go to:
Library -> Right Click "Path of Exile" -> Properties -> Set Launch Options -> Write --noasync

Good luck.

The problem is that after 2.3.0 Prophecy patch everything was super cool without a single performance issue. All problems started after 2016-06-09 Downtime followed by a some mini-patch(without patch note), a lot of ppls have constant freezes and fps jumps after that. The day before that everything was smooth, much better than Perandus was, and now its just unplayable.

I don't know if it was that patch, or the one the day before that caused issues for me. My latency went from an average of ~30 to 35 to routine spikes of 200 - 400, and a few of 11,000+ during an ill fated attempt to do the labyrinth. All the lag spikes were in areas where there was new "stuff" coming up on the screen soon like active traps, strongboxes or special mobs.

The --noasync option seems to eliminate most of the latency around traps, but the FPS still jumps around like a rubber ball in a paint shaking machine. The load time for instances with new tile sets feels like about half of the grace period. For solo play, this is acceptable, but it would make it hard to stay with a group in map runs.

It's hard to say as I have only run it a few times, but so far it feels as if the game is retaining 4 tile sets as "new" - so If I go to Sarn and then 4 different lab tile sets, when I return to Sarn, the game takes a long time to load it again as if it were new.

I don't know if the preload of an area is just the graphic asset pieces that make up the whole, or the whole, but if it is the former, perhaps when an area like the lab is preloaded - it could load all the traps types when you first enter the plaza, so only the instance tileset and mobs need to be added each time?

I do want to say thanks to the GGG team for giving us an option, and I hope you are able to find a better solution for the future.

So far I am very disappointed. Nothing seems to improve my gaming experience. I am running a GTX 970 an Intel 4790 with 16 GB ram. I have had no issues on any other game with ultra settings. This is just unacceptable. I am currently sitting here with a latency going up and down from 50 to 150 and my fps is a steady 60 fps. And my audio pops every few minutes. Is there anything else I can try like opening ports on router etc.?

So here i am in a corrupted instance with steady fps and latency this proves to me its not on my end!!!
Fix this shit Boise!!!!

Update! If I leave a zone and create a new one latency is stable. When I first enter its all over the place.
