How to turn off the background loading properly if you have performance issues

As of 2.3.0f this evening, you're able to use the --noasync command-line parameter to completely disable the asynchronous loading changes introduced in Content Update 2.3.0.

You should only do this if they were causing you problems. It looks like they improved performance for most users, but some people had some pretty severe problems with the new system.

To apply the change, edit your shortcut to Path of Exile so that there is --noasync at the end. For example, mine would be: "C:\Users\Chris\Path of Exile\PathOfExile.exe" --noasync

PLEASE NOTE: The --nopreload mode was actually achieving this functionality, while also preventing preloading. We have changed it so that both --nopreload and --noasync now work the same way. The asynchronous loading is turned off but data is preloaded correctly (resulting in long loading screens, but no stuttering). You should remove --nopreload and add --noasync to your shortcut for future compatibility.

This is not intended as a long-term solution. It's so that people who felt that 2.3.0 was a step backwards can keep playing the old way (albeit with many of the other memory benefits that weren't a problem) until we solve it properly.

Please only do the following if you were actually having issues with background loading performance in 2.3.0. It gets rid of the super fast loading screens, which would be a step backwards if it was fine for you.

The problem is that after 2.3.0 Prophecy patch everything was super cool without a single performance issue. All problems started after 2016-06-09 Downtime followed by a some mini-patch(without patch note), a lot of ppls have constant freezes and fps jumps after that. The day before that everything was smooth, much better than Perandus was, and now its just unplayable.

Good job,
sould we remove the previous added launch option "--waitforpreload" or we can use them both at the same time ?

Also i wanted to ask what`s happening to the Lightning Arrow skill which is rly laggy from several years.

Please just tell us if you have any workaround for this cause the problem exists even on streamers with Beast PCS ( i`m not one of them ).

My game with "--waitforpreload" is working smoothier than before but when i throw an LA on medium/large pack of mobs my fps drops to 5-1 fps.

Thanks about the hard work in order to fix our issues.

My pc:

RAM: 4gb ram
VGA: ati mobility radeon hd 4650
CPU: intel dual core x2.4

Before 2.3.0 content update i used to play with stable 30 fps no matter on medium or large pack of mobs.
Can there be a problem in party play if players have different loading methods ?

some load instances faster, that's all.

game works fine here with standard settings. loading times are amazing. i think a ssd is standard even for most work pc's now and a 780gtx should be stated as the minimum requirement to play the game.

no offense but i wonder that the game starts at all with your notebook. the hd 4650 mobility chipset was ok to run games of the last millenium on 1280*1024 with 60fps. but it already failed at crysis on 1024*768.

Hello Chris,
How if a Garena Sea or Steam user do this --noasync mommand line, please help my friends :D
for those non english natives who get confused by all the options, chris explained it much more simpler on reddit:

a) If your PC can handle it, don't use any parameters. Then it'll be fast in every way.

b) If you get minor stuttering, use --waitforpreload to make sure it's fully preloaded before it finishes the loading screen. The rest is background loaded later.

c) If that isn't good enough, --noasync will revert back to the old behaviour.

This helped a lot. I still experience some stuttering and desync, it's definitely not as it was before Prophecy. The only thing different now being the sound engine, any fix I can try to make it better? Or are any sound fixes planned in the future?

Thanks.
