I think one thing that Diablo 3 players do wrong is actually play POE with the Diablo mindset.
There is fun to be had in this game, but the fun in the game ONLY begins after having bad experiences. You have to fail a lot. Learn alot...then suddenly you realize your characters aare getting better and better. Once you really understand the skill tree and it's interactions with gear can you really enjoy this game imo. My first 6 builds (all the way to 80+) sucked so much ass that I was going to uninstall this game....then suddenly everything clicked like a light switch and I loved the game for what it is. I play D3 and POE for two vastly different experiences, neither of which is "wrong" imo. It's good that you realize that this game isn't for you...there is no shame or anything wrong with admitting it. Nice, honest feedback in your post...so can't be mad at it. Good luck to ya! |

Appreciate the lot of you for being understanding, and returning positive feedback in spite of my initial sour attitude; also, good points... and, I have to agree with the consensus of the majority that this game definitely is not for me.
Just to shoot a reply to MortalKombat3, to contextualize why I find rares being good, really it's because (again) I came out of Diablo 3 where there's numerous cookie-cutter "gimme" builds; pick up a set, buff the crap out of a set of abilities, take your pick of those, voila. I suppose rare items are even better in the respect of not trapping you to "a [select few]... abilities" being buffed and therefore worth using. Unfortunately, I've been rid of all of my items in-game so I'm back to square one whether I like it or not (even characters deleted so no talent point reset). Again, I only want to reiterate my apology for any... ill-will and the like that I might have vented more at the end of my original post; I was tired and frustrated, so... I wanted to write some sharp words, but I changed my mind.
At least you're not trying to make the game something that it's not (arcade game like D3, even though is kinda on its way to that with pacing increase), and are willing to admit that the game has different sets of goals that you want. A lot of people try to make the game into something it's not just because they feel it should be like other/another arpg. The most valuable thing in poe is knowledge (and thus theorycrafting is vital). Players who stick with the game will learn as they go through, so if you stick with it (not likely, and not rational given you uninstalled the game and admit the game is not for you) you'd find a lot of your statements are false (such as that you *NEED* a 6 link- you certainly do not) seems you want a 'plug and play' 'out of the box' experience of just killing hordes of monsters for loot with flashy skills and not dying a lot, without theorycrafting or planning/learning. D3 does all of this way better than probably any arpg out there. the A in Diablo 3's ARPG does stand for arcade at this point though. |

Yeah, I agree, grepman. Rofl to respond to your first sentence, yup... I did come off as a guy who needs to have some rebuttals to his opinions. No problem with that. Yeah... I really would need to stick with a game like this in order to get comfortable with how it is.
Indeed, I do enjoy plug-and-play. I just spent two hours last night blowing up monsters of varying difficulty on Diablo 3, and had fun rocking out to music and chatting with friends while doing it. Just felt like Path of Exile was more serious business, it's not my style. :) I hope that's understandable at least! Ehh, I'm not too big on graphics so much as the "x" person view, and higher graphics quality than the equivalent of an 8-bit. I still die sometimes on Diablo 3. >.> Heh. Again, thank you guys (and gals) a MILLION for the extremely positive and understanding feedback. Last edited by Ltlandpa1#3400 on May 18, 2016, 4:00:01 PM

You could have just duo with somebody and asking that person questions until you learn, a lot of people do it. Seems like you just didn't learn the game at all and didn't find how to. The game is more enjoyable playing with 1 or 2 persons. Alone it becomes boring after sometime to some persons. In group you can feel lost, everything is too fast and gets boring because you think you don't do any difference. It happens in most groups where 3-4 persons deal only damage. Groups with support/support/curser/damage/damage/summoner you wouldn't feel so "useless" in a party, but public groups with that set isn't easy to find, i think. But, anyway, you seem have given up, good luck so.
Sometimes...

Yeah, guess I didn't learn too terribly much about the game.

Good read, I agree with some but in general a lot of the reasons you dislike it are the things I think poe do better than d3
Don't forget to drink your milk 👌

" "Just pointing out some "um, what?" moments in PoE defenders. It's hard to imagine these things as anything but negatives, and they're worth improving on. PoE's steep learning curve and lack of tutorials reminds me of 1990s Magic the Gathering. To get into that game you either needed to be a massive nerd, or get tutored by someone who already knew the game. Even if you loved the game you knew, deep down, that your odds of getting a friend interested were well under 50% due to the massive amount of information necessary to play competently, much less well. It's something which MtG has worked on improving over time. Has PoE? When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
