Thoughts from a game dev in the industry ...
Poorly hidden D3 vs PoE thread.
We fight to delay the end because it's the means that matter.

I strongly agree on the maps point. TL2 has that too and it plays very well, in fact it's one of the things that most tempts me to drop PoE and go back to it - maps should become usable the instant the player completes the game the first time, even in normal, simply with rewards and etc appropriate to the lower level, instead of forcing playing through the game nearly 2 more times to start accessing particularly random-generated content with unusual area mods. Corrupted side areas are nice but they're just not enough while playing through the game 3 times, especially in Hardcore, where it'd be nice to be able to level on more varied content as the difficulty and chance of dying starts to pick up.
Speaking of TL2, I strongly feel you should use their system for re-entering maps as well; as long as you don't use a new map, the map remains open, and if it has timed out, a fresh instance is generated. There could perhaps be exceptions for unique maps due to their special designs, but for non-unique maps, I believe free-reentry is the better design, by far. If anything, limited re-entries should ITSELF be a special mod that drives up the item quantity - it could then be applied to all the unique maps it's needed on. Also, being able to map constantly once you unlock it really SHOULD be allowed and encouraged - forcing people to go back to maps they've already played with no special mods just to try to get another map that may or may not even be interesting is, IMO, a terrible choice. As for the RNG part, I think Perandus is literally the perfect solution to that. Either bring it into the permanent leagues completely and unchanged when it ends, or make the Perandus leagues permanent and go to an 8-league instead of 4-league format from then on (e.g. the next temp league will have std/hc/perstd/perhc variants in addition to 4 permanent leagues: std/hc/perstd/perhc.) Perandus makes content much more accessible in a fairly interesting and fun way that's supportive of self-found solo gameplay. It's the best thing you've added to the game this year, dwarfing lab and ascendancy, which have... unresolved issues. While I like the idea of a class/build-"smart" drop table, I think 25-50% would be quite adequate, wouldn't mind seeing 85%, though, I just think it would start to detract from the feel at that point. 25-50% feels about right off-hand, and it would be ideal if it takes hints from what the player already has equipped and their stats (e.g. high spell damage modifiers should encourage items commonly used by spell damage builds, and if you're using a wand, you're at least a little more likely to see more wands than otherwise; likewise, if you don't have anywhere near enough dex to equip something anyway, it's substantially less likely to drop.) At a moderate level, this could provide less bombardment with 'trash' loot while still giving players good items for other builds from time to time. It might help to further tweak this to tend to influence white and blue items more than uniques and rares, so the off-build items a player sees are more likely to be WORTH making a new character for. This could perhaps have exceptions for 6Ls and maybe 4/3Ls - but nobody makes a new character for that 2L midlevel white bow they just found, and so it makes sense for a character not to see so many utterly worthless items like that - if they're using wands, a 2L midlevel white wand should be far more likely than a similar yet far more useless bow. People who don't like the Labyrinth are not a minority: Be heard - say you don't like it in your signature. Don't leave complaining about lab to others - GGG needs to see how many people dislike it. Ascendancy must be gated on true ARPG content, not a poorly-crafted internet Legend of Zelda wannabe.

" xD value of your post is 0. Op is not game dev or you are bad dev. "Is there such a thing as an absolute, timeless enemy? There is no such thing, and never has been. And the reason is that our enemies are human beings like us. They can only be our enemies in relative terms." Last edited by kamil1210#5432 on Mar 16, 2016, 5:13:52 PM

I forgot to mention that I really doubt the OP has any significant development experience. At best he might actually have a small job in the games industry somewhere, but most likely it was just bait for the line. In any case, his lack of awareness of features in non-Diablo ARPGs shows that he hasn't done his development homework.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted. " That does not, however, mean that he doesn't have a few good ideas, though, along with some bad ones. Some of these could actually make the game more fun, and me more likely to purchase a supporter pack, especially if implemented in more moderate, customized-to-PoE ways, since PoE is not Di3, it's just, in some ways, similar. Nice troll bait title or w/e. Could wipe my ass with your dev skills, OP. Try harder next time.

Re-read OPs first post in Donald Trumps voice.

" Lol your one of those people. The op just needs to play more, got a few things messed up. Poe introduced the map system before d3 was released. Unless its a complaint about the lab or a broken skill poe is pretty perfect. |

" Well, I wouldn't say perfect. I could fanboy for GGG all-day, son... and I've got a list of gripes a mile long. But most of those are stuff like tool tips, UI customization, hotkeys, losing the life/mana globe ladies... Etc etc. But that's icing. Overall the game is fine the way it is. But OPs, damn, his post boils down to: "Hey, nice game you've got there. Different. Unique even. I can't stop playing it because it's so awesome and unique. Now here's a list of things to do that will make it a crappy, casual snooze-fest. Cheers!" ...Or... "Now I don't wanna talk bad about those GGG folks. Great people. Just great people. But their game! It just isn't winning anymore! Who've they got working over there? Morons. That's who. If I'm elected, I'll make PoE great again! I'll build a wall, it's gonna be such a great wall, I'll build a wall that'll keep the hardcore players out. I'll keep all the hardcore players out with this awesome wall, and guess what? I'll make Chris Wilson pay for it! How? Don't worry about how, I'll make a deal! I'm a game dev! I make deals! You're gonna love it, your gonna love it. I swear to God, so many uniques are gonna drop, you'll be sick of uniques! Vote for me! Make PoE great again!" See? Sounds way better as a Trump speech. |

" Its the best combat ive seen, so many choice on how to kill monsters faster. The problem is when they break away from what the game is, going mmo crap (d3) think people read the story more than once or even care about. Im killing monsters and cashing in quests, all the story i need. Look at my post history, im not a fanboy, i hate the lab but like the game. |
