why? because you can't play for 10 minutes on a piece?
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
Guy dies his way through the lab finally in softcore and becomes an expert?
Hardcore, then come sing the praises.

Posting like this is taking away from whatever point you're trying to make. You can't die your way though lab on any server and there's no softcore in this game unless you count normal difficulty in standard leagues. Being uppity about playing in hardcore doesn't make your point more valid, not that you actually made one in this post.

Here's the point.

If you level up to 89 (or whatever) go into the HC uber lab and die 'practicing' it, That's it. Back to level 1 you go.

Is it still enjoyable design?

Say the cat needs out, or dinner is burning? What if you're old with a bad bladder and need to suddenly run for a squirt? OR if this massively untuned game engine decides to disconnect you?

There's a MASSIVE difference.

Just like with Atziri, Shaper, Pale Council, Malachai, Brutus, *insert anything here*
IF they do not make any changes by 3.0 for lab then my guess is the game is going to take a massive hit. This is the point many people/guilds/inactives hoping for change have written in the red line in the sand.

Yep, whole thing should be changed for people that don't take care of their real life obligations before sitting down to play part of a videogame that was advertised as taking an average 40 mins. to complete. Or for people who can't hold their piss for more than an hour at a time. /s
Just a lowly standard player. May RNGesus be with you.

Just like with *insert a time out TP in any of the things you mentioned*

Still not seeing a difference?
I am not at all fond of the Labyrinth. I can get all my characters through the Normal/Cruel Labyrinth as long as I over level sufficiently. Most can get through the Merciless Labyrinth after a few tries.

Uber Labyrinth is a different matter. My marauders can stroll casually around through the traps and mobs because of their high armour, life and regen in particular. Argus/Izaro are never to be treated lightly of course. ES characters, fairly OK in the traps, but stuggle against Izaro sometimes. My evasion characters have the absolute suckiest time imaginable. The whole lab just minces evasion characters.

As for whether it's optional, I'd say the first four points are build-enabling and mandatory, the next two are generally a big boost as well. The last two points, it depends on the build and ascendancy. Sometimes those extra two points make a big difference, sometimes you look at the tree and think "why bother".

Traps in particular - I don't mind the concept so much, but running around in the dark through screen after screen after screen of traps, with no safe areas and (in Uber Lab), those pillars that nuke you out of nowhere while you're already half dead from traps. Too much trap density. Of course, that's just what GGG wants to hear :)
