That was quite the amazing surprise of the morning! This totally needs to be in the game.
That is some awesome presentation for your ideas. Its also a TON of ideas. I hope this sparks some talk in the GGG offices about the merit of these ideas and inspires some thoughts for future expansions. I think you know that the amount of suggestions here would take forever to implement so we wont see anything for this for a while and as others have pointed out some of this stuff probably wont be able to be balanced into the game. Then again, I feel the same way about some of the ascendancy trees and they are coming. So who knows. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

This is the problem, you guys just throw away people's ideas that are very influential and have great potential for POE by just saying you'll 'pass the ideas' on, or move the topic to a different forum.

That's not right, why don't you engage with the OP and converse the ideas and design and get something figured out and then incorporate that in the game?

Bro come on there are thousands of interesting ideas that they COULD implement, but that doesn't mean they SHOULD. I mean, jesus, think for a a sec. If they accept some of this guys ideas, lots of other people would flood GGG with ideas (shit ideas) and get angry when they dont get implemented. It would be bad for the games health in the long run

could you guys please stay on topic?! its just annoying as peeeeep when ppl taking the whole threat down by side-writing and insulting... please let the grown ups have a real pro-con discussion here... if you dont like it than feel free to say so but pls for the sake of the OP at least tell him (us) WHY!
first of all i like MOST of the ideas but awesome job creating all this and like all ideas it got flaws but insttead of making it a good idea the perma-trolls coming in and destroying good thoughts and coversations because of the inability to achieve something in real life... sry about the rant back to topic pls :D

Well, this isn't a shit idea though. And, this isn't one of those "thousand's of suggestions", it looks like the OP has spent a lot of energy into this and if a game developer is going to engage in discussion with them, they should talk about WHY they differ, and discuss and get something out of it so they can later use those features and incorporate them into the game. You are right, they don't have to do it, but with a staff member who has the words *Design & Balance* in their signature and then says they cannot discuss about the mechanics of the suggestion doesn't give off a good vibe. Might as well not even post.

The sad part is, the op will get the 'satisfaction' that a GGG dev has posted in their topic and never see a part of this suggestion incorporated into the game. But, the stigma already came to fruition: 'oh, a ggg dev posted in this topic, they must have cared and gave it a thought'.

But, when you take a look at the substance of their postings, it's quite the opposite.


The more they keep doing this, the more likelihood the company will end up like Blizzard where they really don't care. GGG needs to remember that without this community and suggestions the game wouldn't be where it is today.

What Dan means is that if he comments on his own personal opinion of the ideas, people are going to run away with it and assume that what he says is GGG's stance and that they're going, or not going, to do XYZ based off this post.

So "I can't provide feedback" means "I really wish I could but then people are just going to assume that's the direction we're heading, which would be misinformation."

I think that runs into the same problem I outlined previously. I don't think attributes should be transmogrified as such by the Essence orb.

What I would consider, if I was in GGG's shoes here, is allow the Essence orb to provide a chance to slightly reduce the attribute requirements of the gem. That way it still stays thematically in line with the skill AND provides a reasonable level of balance (doesn't outright allow a strength-heavy character to be a caster without investing in Intelligence), but simultaneously still makes it marginally easier for off-classes to engage in skills they otherwise wouldn't, or couldn't.

This would probably be too MMO for some people but what I'd honestly like to see the Essence Orb do is provide a timed buff to a skill gem, similar to how you can drink a potion in RIFT or Grim Dawn that provides you with a 5 minute buff to a particular resistance. Not that idea, but that mechanic.

So basically, it would be like Warcries, but for skill gems.

In order to retain balance, I don't think the Orb should provide permanent access to a cooldown/timed buff like that, but rather you have to find or trade for the orb and you'd get say, a 60 second augment to the skill that's based on what that skill is. And each time you want that augment, you need an additional orb.

* So perhaps Viper Strike gains an additional 20% DoT for X Duration
* Heavy Strike gains 10% increased Stun Duration, or reduced Stun Threshold.
* Incinerate gets 15% additional projectile speed.

Etc.
