Donald Trump
So Sarah Palin doesn't like it because it's "socialism" and libs actually agree with her? Do libs actually want more unregulated trickle-up free market? Or do they only agree because it's vs Trump? Also pls explain how a 20 trillion debt country can't afford 700k a year in subsidies, but can afford 1000ish people going on unemployment benefits instead of staying employed and paying taxes? Is this the liberal math I've been hearing about?

While Palin is right in principle, in practice she's missing a few things in this particular case. THe $7M over 10 years would be coming out of the state of Indiana, so it's not like it will be a nation-wide taxpayer-funded subsidy; basically, the state of Indiana is betting that that $7M will yield a good return for the state.
Another thing to consider is that the 1000 jobs is not the whole picture. THose jobs, from what I can tell, simply reflect Carrier factory jobs, which tend to pay better-than-minimum wage. In addition, there is likely a secondary market for specialists to upkeep factory equipment, so that's more jobs being secured, as well as all the truckers who will be transporting raw materials into, and finished product out of, said factory. THat's the trickle-down effect. If the factory stays open, those jobs stay. If it closes, those jobs become less necessary. Depending on the actual numbers, it may affect 1200-1500 workers directly, plus the indirect effect on people in the local (and in the case of truck drivers, regional and national) service industries who benefit from their patronage. Not exactly soemthing that can be summed up in a 30-second soundbite.
I think the new meta is everyone bitching about the new league.
" A quick peek - shows 3.23% Avg income tax, 1069 jobs saved and average pay of $30.91 an hour. - so about 3 and a half years and Indiana would be in the black again, even without the effect of that money going back into the local economy. When you add in 7% sales tax and a rough figure of 30% local spending, it will take Indiana under two years to recoup the costs. When you factor in the local spending multiplier and sales tax, Indiana will be turning a profit off this deal in 8 months. Long term ball park numbers - after year one, this deal is worth $10 Million a year in additional tax revenue for Indiana, compared to losing the jobs. I actually think Palin was on point. She wasn't anti-Trump really — Jennik forgot to quote her writing

"Gotta’ have faith the Trump team knows all this. I’ll be the first to acknowledge concerns over a deal cut by leveraging taxpayer interests to make a manufacturer stay put are unfounded — once terms are made public."
I would like to believe Trump is the type of president I want. I'm not really libertarian, I'm more of a prosperity centrist. I don't care about the lofty intent of laws, I care about the results, and the results I care about are profit for the shareholders — in a democracy, that's everybody, and I do mean everybody. I am a little concerned about whether this is in fact a good deal, and I hope the $7 million cost returns on investment as anticipated, but you really don't know until after whether an investment pays off. But Trump is clearly trying, which is a lot more than we can say for recent politicians who have been serving the lobbyists and their campaign finance dollars, dollars funneled into advertising and propaganda to win the votes of the gullible with false promises of change, rather than serving the people themselves to earn the votes of the satisfied. Simply put, until politicians deliver, I'll just vote non-incumbent ad nauseum. I don't give a fuck about incumbent promises, only incumbent results. " Oh wait. Trump isn't serving the lobbyists and his donors? He is pretty much getting cozy in the swamp. Very soon he would be one of them. |

"Perhaps so. Perhaps not. Difficult to know at this point. Won't be difficult to know in 2020. Keep booting people out until they do the right thing. With Clinton there was no uncertainty whatsoever about whose interests she served, and it wasn't ours. I regret nothing. " Do you have something suggesting that Carrier gave Trump's campaign a lot of money? Considering how much of Trump's campaign financing came from small individual donations - the voters are his largest donor block. I'm OK with Trump serving the voters. I'm OK with Trump influencing the swamp people to help pay for draining the swamp. Until there's some sort of gross malfeasance, there's just simply not going to be any traction on the NeverSwampers memology. Trump's opponents should be focused on the Wall. Once it gains momentum, it will be inevitable and the future voter replenishment scheme of the left will be gutted. I think most of the anti-Trump crowd would elect Fidel Castro vs Trump, and they genuinely think he was a better person.
