Themed Hideout Competition Submission Thread!
My Hideout Submission!
This is a hideout that I've been working on since the beginning days of the Master's release. it was done in Standard. I name this hideout "Maligaro's Corruption Factory" As you can see, the theme is very much factory/industrial... with a twist of Vaal. Write a brief explanation about any clever decorating tricks you've used and how your decorations display your theme: I think the coolest combination I came up with is merging both the 'transistor' MTX, and the 'Vaal vessel' MTX. It creates this kind of soul sucking life force draining machine! The contrast of the blue glow and the red glow really makes for a neat effect! Feel free to view all 8 of my hideout pictures by following the link! Each pic will have a brief description on what I was going for with each room. http://imgur.com/a/r87pT Thanks for taking the time to visit! Cheers, Dano |

Theme: Ancient temple overtaken and re-purposed by exile guild Tileset: Coastal I'm not the greatest with image editing, I recommend following the link to the full resolution images as the prescribed 655 wide resolution seems to get a bit blurry. Context and notes are included in spoilers below each image. There is a bonus picture with a little easter fish included at the bottom of this post. Image 1: Full resolution: http://i.imgur.com/B5YhMN6.jpg
Spoiler
We start our tour in the middle of hide-out in the main temple hall area. This hall has seen the worship of many a god. In recent times a guild of exiles lead by the forsaken masters have taken refuge here.
The main hall is used primarily by the more rich and powerful members of the guild. The hall is said to be under the protection of all that gods that have been worshiped here. Because of this many exiles have chosen to stash their most valuable tools and belongings in this hall. (two medium golden statues, Vagan's catapult ball 2 as well as Elreon's ghostly fog are used to create the center piece on the way-point.) Image 2: Full resolution: http://i.imgur.com/gAFENI6.jpg
Spoiler
Further down the hall we find Elreon's addition to the temple's cast of gods in the form of his Blessing Font as well as the guild's mapping device. (Crypt fire pit is used to create a dim yet fiery flame under the scroll in the display case).
The remnants of portals leading to wreaclast's most corrupted realms leave a shadow of corruption which becomes noticeable in stark contrast to the hall's otherwise pure atmosphere. Image 3: Full resolution: http://i.imgur.com/g6xBoK3.jpg
Spoiler
The majority of the island this temple resides on is densely forested. This top level addition to the temple is thought to have been constructed later than that main hall, as evident by the difference in worship performed here.
This area of the temple may be accessed through a pathway, but only the members of the guild with an affinity for magic and worship frequently go up here. Image 4: Full resolution: http://i.imgur.com/j5yNNq6.jpg
Spoiler
As we enter the area something seems odd. Every wall of this room is lined with a bright source of light, yet the encroaching darkness of the forest claims a lot of the light emitted.
Elreon prefers to reside in these quarters, studying book after book and learning about the servants of the heathen gods that were worshiped here. The altar one such group of heathens left has however proven to be quite resourceful as it is said to grant the favor of the ever Righteous, Nefarious but Generous gods that govern us all. (The Fireplace MTX is used here as a source of light to brighten up the room from the corner. The wisp MTX is used in this hide-out to indicate the presence of spirits. The subtle effect the light beam MTX offers is best seen in motion and is hard to capture in still images.) Image 5: Full resolution: http://i.imgur.com/f2Cn07K.jpg
Spoiler
We now take a different turn from our waypoint down towards the main encampment where the majority of the exiles reside.
(The entrance is made using a variant of Fellshire ruins, Large whale skeleton ribs, a palisade entrance and the fourth variant of catarina's decorated trees. Two of the colossus pieces which are used in this hide-out can be found to the left of this entrance, the sword and the hand, spanning across the path-way. I was originally going for a look with both hands clutching the sword tightly to reflect the weapon my character is using, however I found swapping the hand 180 degrees to be way more visually appealing. And we all love more modifiers.) Image 6: Full resolution: http://i.imgur.com/rkxE4Dc.jpg
Spoiler
The shipwreck that was found on the island when the guild arrived seems to have been laying there for a long time as the trees have grown around it. The souls of it's crewmen seem to still wander about the site of the wreckage. We see a more lush style of tree on the border between the forested area and the beach.
Those with less inherent power and wealth have set up encampment in the clearing between the shipwreck and the temple, creating an oddly comfortable atmosphere. Tora too has set up her tent here, barely visible between the lush trees. Foods are prepared here to be served at nightfall. For when night comes the cold comes with it, and the cauldron provides both warmth and belly full of warm food. (The Cauldron MTX is put to use here to add to the atmosphere as well as lightning of the area. A vaal firepit is placed slightly to the back of the center of the cauldron to prevent the area behind it from being to dark.) Image 7: Full resolution: http://i.imgur.com/KFzyzLt.jpg
Spoiler
We move towards the beach front and as we go down the olden path we find Catarina has taken up residence in the cemetery. (I used the cemetery as base for the lower portion, giving me a reason to use tora's path and a way to incorporate different trees in a natural manner, allowing me to forest a large part of the island.
We also catch a glimpse of the guild's main storage area to the south-east as two exiles are bartering over something. By the looks of it they're having an argument about the driftwood equipment:scroll fragment ratios. (This area also features the crafting bench, as Catarina's area features the headstones as well as a bunch of storaged goods, some of which is displayed in partially opened boxes. Image 8: Full resolution: http://i.imgur.com/41ckAR1.jpg
Spoiler
In our final submission image we take a look at the guild's main storage area under the front of the ship. Leo has taken up the role of storage-keeper, keeping track of the guild's supplies via the ancient method of sticky notes.
The guild has used part of the chopped wood from the trees they cut to make the clearing for the encampment to build a palisade around the beach area. Defense is only it's secondary purpose as they serve to increase the amount of space the guild has to work with on the island by allowing them to store part of their goods further out on the beach. This island sits in a place where no storm ever reaches, and as such there is no danger of the goods floating off as long as the palisades are in place. This place seems to have weird properties indeed, which might elude to the reason so many gods have been worshiped here. Or perhaps it was the other way around, and is the long lasting religious purpose of the island the reason it is the place it is. (Colossus leg and head have been used to support the front of the ship, trees from a variety of masters are used to create a tropic atmosphere. A rhoa brought in from one of countless mapping expeditions is being cooked above a bonfire, probably to be prepared in a soup of some kind. A black dot on a blue field is the sigil of this Guild, who's name eludes even me. It is featured next to the large golden statue overlooking the sea as well as on the strand at the naval entrance to signify this guild's claim on the island.) Easter Fish: http://i.imgur.com/eo7auTS.jpg
Spoiler
This is a secret entrance to the encampment. You can actually walk all the way around from the main entrance to here, forming a full circle around the ship. Here you can also find an exile dear to us all, fishing away, selling his exotic wares to the local sea witch spawn population.
That's all for today, cheers lads. ~TyrionLannister |

LEAGUE: Standard
TILESET: Unearthed THEME: This hideout was created to offer a new land to settle for exiles in Wraeclast. It sits between two ancient temples, offering exploration opportunities for inquisitive minds. The lands surrounding are untamed and filled with danger as one would expect in a forgotten realm such as this. The resilient exiles who created this settlement have scoured the area collecting wood with which to build thier dock and start a ship. They also discovered piles of forgotten literature which they have gathered into the library, among other artifacts. Animals have also been collected and raised in a zoo constructed in hopes of maintaining a steady food supply, alongside the fisherman. The album progresses from the exiles encampment west through the graveyard and first temple then around through Catarinas hut in the north progressing to the courtyard at the second temples entrance and lasty shows the second temple, which lies to the north of the encampment. WRITE A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF TRICKS USED WITH DECORATIONS: All throughout the hideout I have constructed walls for my city and temples using ''pillars'' cleverly alligned. The pre existing structures in the tileset I have chosen have been encorporated into a larger buildings wherever possible. In some places I have overextended the maximum area the hideout has by the positioning of wide decorations or by building ''doorways'' into outside walls to give the illusion one can go outside the tileset. A photo Album is found below documenting what i believe are the more striking parts of the hideout, however much could not be fit into the 8 pic limit. http://imgur.com/a/tzBLj Cheers for reading and viewing fellow Wraeclastians! --Azraphael Last edited by Azraphael#2424 on Sep 29, 2015, 7:57:27 PM

This is my standard hideout aka "The slums ruins"
The layout is based on an Elreon hideout, but its made look like it's located somewhere on the edge of the slums next to the forest. It took me a long time to cover all the books and whatnot to make it more believable. Only the area with catarina features some of the library look from the original hideout. Hope you like it. Home sweet and fortified home The slums "square" is the place where exiles can meet. the cellar / archive Leo is hanging in front of the fortifications. This last pic was affected by a strage light effect. i believe its a teporary thing (bug) |

Name: Unsettled
Theme: The past and present/Moving on (or not) League: Warbands About: I guess I'm not really a creative guy... I wanted to create something that felt like part of Wraeclast but still have a comfortable feel to it. I decided to closely stick to the style of a coastal hideout rather than perform a transformative overhaul of the island. My end result is a pretty cliched shipwreck island. In my defense, the island does come with a shipwreck by default. Full Image
Spoiler
Starting off at the waypoint you see what appears to be the remains of some sort of ancient ruins. The waypoint glows brightly through a mysterious fog surrounded by damaged pillars and four unlit fire pits at each corner of a diamond layout. Through the fog you can barely make out an intricate tiled pattern around the waypoint leading out to the surrounding rock walkway. All around these ruins an encampment has been built. Large palisade walls enclose the area with propped up tents and stalls, carts and wagons settled nearby, and an abundance of barrels and crates filled with supplies nestled into almost every nook and cranny to be found.
Full Image
Spoiler
An opening in the enclosure allows a place to set a banner displaying the insignia of the the inhabitants' former homeland. Perhaps a desperate hope that one day a passing friendly vessel will see that bold banner and come to their rescue.
A fisherman has also found the perfect spot for catching the next meal. Behind the banner lay a tombstone honoring a fallen warrior, his sword stands firmly in the earth, his helmet sits staring out into the endless sea. It seems the residents may have run into some trouble before or after their arrival. Full Image
Spoiler
Moving along the path downhill, the first signs of a shipwreck. A mast and crow's nest lies erect in the sand. Palisades on either side section off the coast into smaller areas. A post is adorned with many letters, to or from whom unknown.
Full Image This image has been edited to hide UI elements.
Spoiler
Here a campsite is set up, walled off from the shore and hopefully from the threat of a rising tide. The building materials for the wall, scavenged from a long derelict lighthouse. What strange irony that the inhabitants would find themselves shipwrecked on a now desert island home to the very structure intended to prevent such an incident!
Full Image Full Image
Spoiler
Further down the cost, here in this small section remains all of the damaged cargo salvaged from the wreckage, forming the small island's very own junk yard. It seems that adapting to the new lifestyle of an islander is not sitting well with everyone, a distraught castaway has taken refuge in this miniature wasteland and is fixated on whats left of a landscape painting. What does he need a rope for?
Further still towards the coast lies a scrapheap, apparently left over from when the island was previously inhabited. The residence have taken the time to set down some of the left-behind damaged building material to form a stone pathway to the shore. They don't want to step on something sharp and rusty after all. Don't worry, those stone slabs are much lighter than they look. Full Image
Spoiler
Back up the island, the path from the waypoint leads up to an ancient temple of some sort.
Full Image
Spoiler
Here at the top of the island a large stone gateway gives entry to the still impressive remains of a temple. Perhaps this is what brought others to this island in the past. Here you can find tiled floors forming beautiful mosaics, still in pristine condition, alongside an equally and peculiarly immaculate shrine to mediocrity: THREE!
The centerpiece of the temple is a mysterious device fitted into the temple's tile-work. Apparently it's a good place to take a nap. Though time has taken it's toll on the temple, as vegetation has made it's way in, shifting stone and replacing the old with the new. Final thoughts: I don't expect to win, but I did have a lot of fun decorating this hideout so it's not a total loss. I hope you had fun exploring my creation as well. And thank you GGG for creating such an awesome feature for such an awesome game. And if you are wondering how I seemingly took screenshots without a character present, that's just Hollywood magic! For most I could just hide behind an object cleanly. When decorations weren't tall enough I used a mine right at the moment of taking the screenshot to duck behind the object. And finally, for good measure I used the still working quartz flask + Phase Run glitch to turn semi-invisible for the shots! Magic! Last edited by D623932883#0055 on Sep 29, 2015, 8:39:59 PM

Azmerian national library
Unearthed hideout standard league Here we are, deep in a forest, where remnants of once great civilization managed to survive. Time has taken its toll and library property might look a bit crumbled, but the Azmerian national library (ANL) is still up and running! Larger image ANL grounds lie on the bank of this scenic river and here we see one of our employees enjoying his free time. Larger image This is the entrance room, where our visitors can apply for library membership, renew it and of course borrow and return books. As you can see, our ANL employee is dutifully sorting out all of the tomes. Larger image Here we can see the social room - place to sit down, have snack, chat and relax. Local map device is also being used to track and hunt down all those who did not return their books in time. Larger image This is the sanctuary, where we pray for more undisturbed years of reading. Elreon here also makes sure, that the whole ANL is under the effect of purity of fire aura. Larger image These are the halls of silence. Only sublte noises of pages being turned are heard and everyone can enjoy their favourite book. Larger image Maybe except this poor man. He accidentaly started reading the Twilight novels and seems rather distressed by it. Larger image And this is the kitchen - when reading, it's easy to get peckish. And our chef is quite crafty. Larger image That's it for this quick visit to ANL. We hope you enjoyed your stay and will come back in future. There's still a lot for you to see! League: Warbands
Theme: Wraeclast's frozen peaks Base Layout: Enlightened Leaving a fur-wrapped tent, soft snow crunches beneath your feet. Vorici looks like he'd say something, but it's not like you'd be able to hear it over the roar of the mountainous winds. After laying Malachai low much of Wraeclast remained untouched, therefore yourself and a handful of the forsaken masters had taken it upon yourselves to delve further inland in an attempt to purge any awaiting monstrosities. Trails deep with snow lead in either direction away from the encampment: one leading downhill into the Northern Forest while another carves its way deeper into the mountain. You take the downhill trail first, praying for a rest from the biting cold. Having left her heavy furs behind, Tora set up camp at the foot of the mountain after a leftover trap sprung, blocking everyone off from their former colonies. No matter how nice a break from frostbite was, you've no choice but to brave the mountain once more. You follow the trail into the mountain, discovering the fruits of Elreon and Vorici's labours from days previous. It would seem that they had torn down the wall to an old Blackguard outpost. Inside you find once-pristine marble floors unearthed, broken, and heaped in haphazard piles. It seems as though not only had your companions sectioned off a storeroom at the expense of the regal flooring, but they'd also caused a minor cave-in, blocking off the right wing entirely. Zana however doesn't seem to mind -- she's still got half an alter and all the maps a girl could ever dream of to decipher. Inside the storeroom are plenty of supplies stocked up. Wine, bread, and plenty of discarded Blackguard gear are all sorted away, stacked on top of each other, and sometimes spilling out. Even after the utmost of care has gone into organization, Elreon jotting down inventory scores thrice over, it still looks like it's overflowing. And finally we come to a lavish alter. Whether this was used in prayer or not remains unknown, yet it definitely is riddled with thaumaturgy as rays of light somehow shine down on it, even though it's placed within a cave. After digging through several maps and ciphers, Zana realizes that the alter holds the same functionality as a map device. It's no wonder this complex was sealed off - the Blackguards could enter and leave as they pleased through portals! With my hideout I've taken obvious inspiration from a hideout of the week, Joe Schmoe VS. The Volcano. The use of spiderwebs to create snow really inspired me to create a hideout with the feeling that it was mostly in the wilderness, rather than indoors. It was decently challenging to make it not look so lumpy, since spiderwebs are pretty restricting. Another big challenge I faced was Tora's light beams: they just got in the way most of the time, but I feel like I was able to use them to my advantage. I did the same thing with Elreon's crafting bench and the mapping device; I would've used Tora instead but she didn't clip inside the statue nice enough unfortunately. A challenge I just couldn't overcome was getting the falling snow mtx item which I had to substitute with blown leaves. They're not nearly as great, but the camp needed some movement in the scene and that was it. My biggest challenge while creating this was just being new. I'm a returning player from waaaay back in the CBT, and I only started playing again early-mid September so some items (like Zana 8 items and time-limited mtx items) were just not feasible to snag. Not to mention I must've drove my leveling partner insane by exclaiming "OOH SPIDERWEBS!!" every time a Catarina popped up. The amount of favour I needed to grind for both rocks from Haku and Catarina's spiderwebs was a little obscene for the time I had, but I'm very happy with the result. Here's an album with larger images if anyone's interested. Thanks for your time and interest! |

simple marble village
No.1: waypoint Something like three months ago the ground has cracked and reveal portal to this well hidden village. No.2: dining table exiles are almost always hungry, but here, everyone can taste roasted rhoa... or atleast something what remains. No.3: altar Some people claim, that RNG Jesus is woman. We don't really know but you can pray to her here :) No.4: headquarters Headquarters has a fully furnished interior, unfortunately, not very easy to see. Eternal vaal fire pits sometimes extinguish, but with a little bit of fiery magic is not the problem to ignite it again. :) No.5: workroom With such beautifully furnished and equipped workroom nothing surprises you anymore. No.6: bridge Building bridges is always a big challenge, but our builders did it perfectly. No.7: map device the heart of every true hideout is trinity of map device, stash and masters, so why don't put them together? No.8: map device detail It is dangerous to explore the nooks of Wraeclast alone, it is great to have a team of masters who are waiting for your order to save the world. There is few more nice details in decoration which you may notice :) Last edited by Xanthrina#3188 on Sep 29, 2015, 9:39:05 PM

Zana's Squalid Legion
Backstreet Hideout Tempest League Nearby slum dwellers are recruited in to a mercenary force headed by Zana in hopes they might rise out of the filth and forge a new life. But this is not an easy path, many of these recruits never return as Zana pushes the boundaries of a fallen Wraeclast fueling a bloody cycle. Here the bulk of the warband rest, wait to begin training, or swap tales of the fire. The camp's trainer and disciplinarian oversees that days meal preparation and weapon maintenance. Coins are exchanged as the quartermaster sorts through recent spoils and storage of equipment in between excursions. Zana plots the warband's next raid in her personal quarters. Tora oversees the warband's fallen comrades and prepares for another internment. A camp follower mourns over a recruit who failed his first venture. Elreon prepares to lead a raid with new recruits in tow. |

Theme: Coastal Shu Defense Zone
Coastal Hideout base This is a costal hideout base, themed as a success defense against the raging enemies. As you can see the amount of dead bodies and broken ships & weapons debris. This hideout is the home of my exile and her masters, each master has their own little themed area. - Zana's area rests up top of this hideout as she holds the role of a commander in this defense zone. - Vorici tortures and interrogate captive for useful information and fun (I do believe he enjoys the process) - Catarina is hosting her dark rituals at the corning, emitting a ghostly green glow to the area - Leo as the man in charge of the catapult, has 2 helpers loading and directing the catapult. |
