Developer Questions and Answers

I think changes to skill tree, existing gem mechanics, changing mob behavior and skills etc are very important to keep the game fresh.

Actually much more significant changes to the game than the past changes will be a must to hook back and retain who have already burned out of playing the PoE.

But for the ppl who play the game constantly without pause, that kind of changes are just an uncomfortable interruption to their characters and builds.

Do you have any plans or possibilities to dramatically change a part of or overall system of the game?

Do you have any plan of a new introduction method for changes to the game, for example, if GGG discloses new skill tree 1 month in advance with significant change with new features, IMO ppl will not complain that much against it.

Nice I really like these.

  • Are you planning on increasing the friendlist slot cap?
  • Are 3day/1week event races always going to be exclusively held between challenge leagues?

I see a lot of complains from Hardcore-league players that the game is too unforgiving or even has too high damage-numbers on Mobs since 2.0.
On the other hand people who play in Softcore need the Challenge so they dont get bored.

I think the amount of dmg in endgame and Mods like CB and Heralds are mostly there to stop Softcore-players to just Corpse-run the game,
but pidgeon-holes players into a few builds requiring Lightningcoil and absurd Lifepool to overcome the occasional Dmgspike.
Do you think this is an issue ?

Am i correct with this assumption, and will we see a increase in Difficulty rather than a decrease?
or

What is your Future Philosophy for Difficulty of the game?

What kind of degree were you going for when you got started in game design? Currently going for my undergrad in comp science and math but don't know where to go after that. I'd like to at some point work on art work for games.
Is Path of Exile moving toward a Diablo 2-style planned skill obsolescence? A lot of the preview discussion of the 2.0 skills focused on "filling gaps" in the level progression of skills , e.g., Frost Blades was created to make sure there was a dexterity-oriented melee skill for level 1-20 or so. At one point, comparisons were even made to the direct upgrades to spells in JRPGs like Final Fantasy. If the intention is that certain skills aren't supposed to be endgame viable, are there any plans for additional structuring or signalling so that new players don't make the mistake of building their characters around them?
First off, i would like to thank you for an amazing game

1. Is anything being done with the current state of Divination Cards?
-Let me elaborate: Divination cards were meant to give players a focal point on where to farm for specific items. Instead, they have become a source of trade value and actually farming for them feels lackluster and slow. At higher levels it is progressively harder to farm for lower level cards, at the same time farming for them while you are at the level for the area is nearly impossible because you find 1 card every 5 hours...if that.

I would like to see a better system put in place for these cards.

2. There are a TON of uniques which are almost completely useless. Is there a plan to overhaul uniques to make them more build enabling or at least more supportive to builds?

3. We are in desperate need of a new trade system. Any news on this?

How do you feel avoidance-based (evasion primarily) and soak-based (hybrid / pure ES) survival toolkits fare compared to the mitigation-based (armour) toolkit for the Hardcore meta?
Will something be done about the wasteland boss regeneration? It's making it impossible to kill the boss for many of the tanky melee builds. I recommend counterplay to be able to counter the regen, make it posisble to predict where they will spawn so the boss can be pulled out of them, the way they spawn right now is making it impossible for a melee character without high enough dps.

Good day Chris,

Some sort of trading system must be added to the the game, whether it's Auction house or at least an easier way than this poe.trade, procurement, acquisition and whatsoever, trading chat as we all know is a complete mess, please add Auction house to sort out the currency, let people sell their stuff, allow people to buy things they need in-game, rather than going on third party apps and wasting ages. My apologies if you are already working on one. I am just not up to news.
Has the recent drama given GGG a new reason to work towards implementing their own trading system? Is a trade revamp in the works? If so, when can we expect information regarding it?
