PoE's performance is poor for a lot of people
Slayer... do you seriously intend to go on with this charade?
look, budget isn't even an argument. I regret to know more than a few "AAA" titles with an insane budget, which are a total bust. "know" because I can't bring myself to admit "played" much less "spent money on". and I feel lucky to have experienced more than a few outstanding low-budget and/or Indie games - and Path Of Exile is definitely on that list. optimization is a matter of dev priority. it's not the money, but rather what you do with it. so now you can either: a) go on with this. keep responding to every comment with the usual "your PC/MAC/Unix box is crap therefore PoE doesn't run well", and annoy the shit out of me in doing so. or b) justify that "Alpha Member" line under your avatar, and admit there's a problem (a huge one), admit it needs top-priority attention from the Devs, and use your status as an Alpha to help GGG in their effort to optimize the game (for example by testing stuff on the Alpha Servers. stuff that aren't new content, and testing i.e not just playing but actively looking for trouble spots). I know that's hard to do with a monster PC like yours - which can probably run Crysis 8 at full quadruple HD while calculating a trajectory to Jupiter in a parallel process, and barely notice any of it - but please at least pretend you care about the stability, performance and quality of the game, on machines that are less powerful than your home-made Cray Titan. please. Fun fact john, that's one of the things I enjoy doing in alpha. Can't say what specifcally, but I do bring up gfx issues probably more than most other alpha members.
For one reason though, hiccups bug me. And I'm not talking about low fps from skills (from players), I'm talking about monster and environmental effects. I hate overly done gfx. Feels fake. So I do use my alpha tag for said purpose, but at the same time, I still believe that there should be certain cut off about system specs where anyone should care. Complaining about how a PC game runs on an *unsupported* OS is one of those things. P.S. They really should update their minimum spec about this game. E: and I would prefer if they start PoE 2 instead of wasting time optimizing what we have. Last edited by SL4Y3R#7487 on Sep 20, 2015, 10:00:28 PM

My specs:
CPU: Intel i5 @ 3.8ghz RAM: 8GB @ 1600mhz GPU: AMD HD6550 2GB edition SSD: Read 450mbp/s Write 400mbp/s My experience: -Game takes about 30-40 seconds to load. -Maps/Instances take about 5 seconds to load. -Game usually freezes for a few seconds the first time I use Discharge in a game session. -Frame rates dip on occasion, particularly when partying with other players in maps -GPU fans spin up like crazy when using CoC Discharge to spam spells Otherwise, performance is pretty steady. |

The funny part is that whether or not your machine is powerful shouldn't matter; multiple arpgs or games with fancy effects that fly all over the screen - whether pixelated (Risk of Rain) or not (Trove, Dirty Bomb, Hawken, Dota, Victor Vran, etc) allow you to turn down the effects. This isn't rocket science, this isn't some impassioned plea to serve our poor non-PCMR friends - having the capability to turn down special effects is STANDARD regardless of game mode, game genre, game generation or even system. If not outright required. Not just because of the fact that some people have 'lesser' computers but because even if you have a more 'powerful' computer that does not guarantee you will have a seamless play experience - I have an SSD and can run shit tons of games like Tera at a consistent 60+ fps. That's already out-doing many other players. Can I enter a room full of special effects without my fps tanking or my cilent outright kicking me from the server? No.
The game is lack luster for not having the option and the devs failed on that point because - it doesn't matter what you believe here - it lessens the game experience, lowers sales due to excessively high performance barrier of entry ('but it isn't a high barrier of entry' I hear you cry, but the fact that the game turns nigh unplayable with more then 3 players on the screen in this MMO say otherwise. When was the last time you played with 2 summoners?) alienates players from fully enjoying every feature of the game and creates a gap between players (again, summoners?). Whatever argument you make, threads pop up everyday anywhere Path of Exile is mentioned about the lack of capability to play in parties, see https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/18s04i/disable_skill_effects/ if you're interested. If people can't effectively play in parties, that's destroying part of the social aspect of this game. PoE is slowly making itself from an MMOARPG to an ARPG with a cute little chat and some trading tacked on by sheer lack of capability to allow joint play, any high level effects used in effective, build creating spells only serve to make that more painfully obvious. |

My PC is top-end, my internet speed is mind blowing and this games lags more than anything else I play online. Not only that, but specific features in the game (skills, strongboxes, etc) cause enormous lag spikes that can obviously be attributed to poor netcode. There's something fundamentally wrong with the programming in this game and I feel that it's getting ZERO attention from the developers. At some point these issues become gamebreaking (anyone ever get closed out of a map, how about dozens of maps?) and the lack of attention is disheartening to say the least.
Great thread incidentally, I really like the quality and presentation. |

Still no response from ggg?

"Umm... people who run games with better graphics/physics on that same "PoS" without any issues? "The most fun part is that DomBlow shouldn't be so resource-consuming at all. Because it's the same monsters that were trying to kill you just a moment ago... and somehow at that moment they didn't affect your dps like they do when dominated. "What response do you expect? No, actually, why do you expect any response at all? Sadly, they don't post in such threads. And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.

That doesn't means they're going to post in this thread :)

I played about 5 different CoC builds this Warbands league and the there is only a couple scenarios I encounter a FPS drop so severe that it hindered my game play
1 - Fracture With beyonders - Anytime I manage to spawn a unique beyonder I could tell because my FPS drops to 1. This happened with all of the CoC builds 2 - Using projectile spells with chain - As soon as I throw chain into my 6 link my FPS drops considerably. Only really an issue if unleashing my crits into an area that has a shrine as there are many mobs around it. Other then that I can not recall anytime that my PC couldn't handle the particles and I played with up to 6 people in the party. I even played in a party with 3 CoC builds in it and yes FPS drops a bit but it only hits game breaking levels during the same scenarios. Game setting 1920x1080 Vysnc Off Shadows Low Antialias Off Texture High Filtering 4x Anisotropic Post processing Off Screen Shake Off PC AMD Quad core 3.6ghz 16GB DDR3 1600 Nvidia EVGA GTX 550 TI - (very weak link) Win 7 7200RPM Sata drive with both POE and Windows on it Using lockstep as without the desync is unreal and I never want to see it again. If on Washington server I get 50ms and on Cali I get 105ms average Network Speed ![]() |
