A4 Piety, overtuned? + the burning man

It took me about 80 deaths to kill her on Merc. The beam 1 shot me no matter I did. 4k hp, capped resists.
Having now gotten through Cruel on Tempest, I feel that the Piety fight really only needs one change to actually be perfectly fine (except for summoners, RIP): her laser needs a start-up animation. Just a couple seconds of seeing her charge the beam would give you the opportunity to re-position and get ready to circle her. It would prevent randomly getting chained by auto-attack into beam, and it would let you focus more on dps and clearing the adds while she's not beaming, since you'd have a chance to react to the charge animation.

The inability to predict when she's going to fire the beam is the biggest problem, in my opinion. I like the mechanic itself and the damage seems about right provided you can dodge it reliably (doesn't quite one-shot you, so it's forgiving enough if things go wrong once for whatever reason, but you certainly don't want to get hit by it all the time), but its instantaneous start-up makes it too unpredictable at the beginning. You can kind of time it because of the recharge, but she doesn't seem to always use it immediately when she can, so you can lose dps trying to circle pre-emptively, which can then lead to too many adds filling the map. If there are multiple targets, gl hf; she could spin around and fire that thing at anyone.

I died once to her didn't know what to expect (playing HC).

Second try was ready killed her with my ranger and around 1280 hp.

Regarding the bug or whatever with Piety on the wall... could that happen when using knockback?
Yes, people already reported knockback issues. But she can also move there on her own!
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.

You need high phys-resists, elemental dont help much against the beam. (see page 3)
On cruel it eats 50% of my 2,9k hp with 50% physical resist. I could lower it further with enfeeble(or avoid it complete if i had immortal call), but i will probably need more 'training-sessions' with her to drop my old habit;)
Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
"A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body."

Only usable with Ethanol Flasks

I can only add to others, that Piety become absolute deadly if stands in the cave corner -- there is no place to hide from her beam and you can't run around her.
I'm an armoured templar and beam kills me in 2 rounds. What if I was a witch or shadow?

Her lore in Act4 is lacks logic and she is the worst of the bosses so far. It's not about bad player skills, only bad design.
Main problem with piety is that the starting angle Piety faces for the laser is seemingly random every time :(
Sometimes it starts nearly right on your face, so if you are hugging her to begin with already then it becomes incredible difficult to dodge.
I don't understand all these complaints.

The laser in normal and cruel wont oneshot ANYONE with more than 2500 hp (which you should have in cruel) no matter how much armor or phys mitigation you have (yes, beam is 100% physical)

In cruel with only AA on and 0 armor i took 1600 damage. So anyone can survive one beam unless hp are below 1600.

Beam can be totally nullified by immortal call, so if you have any sort of endurance charge up, if you really can't manually dodge the beam, you can use immortal call to avoid it

And obviously, the thing to remember: the laser IS NOT MEANT TO BE TANKED. You should manually dodge it.

Even as melee (my actual char, killed her at level 39), Piety does the beam at regular intervals so it's quite easy to predict when she'll do it and prepare accordingly.

Also, Laser is always clockwise, so run clockwise if she starts to cast it

Ofc there should be an invisible barrier that should prevent piety to be near any wall, else the beam is efectivly unavoidable, this is indeed an issue.

All the other complaints to me are purely a learn to play issue, i bet most of payer doesn't even try to manually dodge the laser and expect to tank it

regarding piety (laser)

I agree it doesn't even one shot and that it should be played around by dodge or immortal call or movement ability etc, i and im sure lots of other players do study bosses beforehand to not lose character or exp.

but regardless it doesn't make it a fun mechanic when it spawn on ur face, feels like you were cheated out of a chance to dodge, even if it doesn't overall affect the fight (just pot back up and start running...)

It hurts enough to incentivize almost always trying to dodge despite not one-shotting.
it being an instant hit on you sometimes is just really dumb. almost every powerful dodge-based mechanic has a very clear startup, where this one, once in a while you'll be a bit unlucky and have minimal chance to react. Reaction should not be this variable in a fight.. it's not fun or very fair.

Overall i think the fight is really easy, but occasionally you get hit by a laser due to slightly bad luck.

What is most infuriating isn't even that it is dodge-only OHKO attack. it is that you have to continuously dodge it for a considerably long time. It just, I don't know... feels wrong.
Dominus' river of souls? Get behind the column, wait. You can also tank it for a second or two.
S&H beam? The same.
Vaal smash? Just move aside, it takes one second.
Atziri's FB? The same, just move aside.
But Piety's laser? Oh, you know, you must run in circles like an idiot for many seconds and pray that nothing interferes with your movement, because if da beam only just grazes you, you are dead. Not fun, not fun at all.
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.
