The point of taking EB isn't to truly benefit off of MoM or AA, but it's to allow characters to use the mana hungry spells like Incinerate or Summon Raging Spirit. These builds can be done without having EB, but with such little options to obtain mana on gear and on the tree (getting mana off the tree is not very attractive and more of a chore like how getting base stats in early alpha was).
When i use EB i sacrifice that ES on my gear as layer protection to be able to use skills that i could not use at that time. As someone pointed out on the sub-reddit I am constantly using my spells and my mana is constantly dipping up and down. If we had the change right now I would have no mana to use skills and an empty ES pool to protect myself. I am highly against this change, but I need to test it out before I can make a final judgement call if it makes or breaks most builds and overall slows down the pace of the game. |

I don't think the problem is sustaining that ES pool (you have Ghost Reaver and/or Zealot's Oath as ES regen options), it's the fact that running EITHER of those means you're taking away a hugely valuable source of LIFE survivability. Life Leech (to your LIFE pool, I'm assuming, because you're running EB) and life regen are both essential for non-crazy-mirror-DPS-gear people to stay alive among the thousands and thousands of burst damage in higher maps. Add in Ghost Reaver and Zealot's Oath to JUST sustain mana means you CAN'T LEECH and CAN'T REGEN. Unless there is some kind of SUPER LIFE POT OF INVINCIBILITY any character who takes EB will either be this untouchable EB/MoM/AA/Life tank monster or a squishy fuck with a lot of pseudo-mana and NO life sustain, aside from life gain on hit (which can get inadequate for anything other than fast-attacking elemental builds).
I know EB/MoM/AA is quite strong right now and either needs a small nerf or a buff to EVERY OTHER defense, but this is a way to ALMOST create a viable defense mechanism that falls flat on its face because regardless of how much damage your mana/ES-mana can tank with CoD, a fat portion of damage still hits your life and with Ghost Reaver/Zealot's Oath there's no way to get that life back. Either changes to Ghost Reaver/Zealot's Oath need to be made, or this ES had better regen fast enough that GR/ZO aren't necessarily needed. noot

This seems interesting, "Energy shield recovery" stats are no longer useless with EB, and you can potentially use Zealots oath to regen the "Mana ES".
But I'm worried about how this will impact Righteous Fire damage, previously you could take Eldritch Battery to reduce the damage you take from Righteous Fire by removing your ES. But now Righteous Fire will still count your "Mana ES" for the damage? |

Cause isn't the point of this to allow ability use to run on es, but if you need life regen how do you keep up es? " Well, that's GGG balancing, it's always been like this. It's change for change's sake and it goes in cycles. Remember a long time ago, no one played casters. NO ONE. Then GGG gets it right, casters become good, they become popular and GGG is now destroying them. Wait long enough and in one of the future patches, they're gonna nerf everything else and buff life casters again lol This has to be one of the worst proposed changes I've seen in all the time I've been playing. Wow. I'm blown away that this idea hasn't been dismissed 3 seconds after someone first proposed it. This looks interesting first but at the end you are impacting far too much today game balance with this change, not sure that you ( GGG ) can handle such impact beeing in the middle of 2.0.0...
And nerfing EB was maybe not a priority. IGN TylordRampage

I'm not really sure.
If this offers different ways to use EB/MoM (ES reg nodes, etc.) it might be nice, but it seems like this is basically just a nerf to EB. In that case, just reduce it's effect by XX%. Because this just seems to make this more complicated/difficult to see for no reason at all. |
