Vaal Fragment Changes in 1.2.4d
I don't like this change, but for a different reason than most of the players here.
I really liked the design decision GGG made and had hoped that they stand by it. Maps are already a "do only one thing and get multiple benefits"-thing. By running maps you get: 1) Access to more maps 2) Experience 3) Items/Currency Fragments were the only thing that you could do independently from maps. Many people complained about the lack of fun they have when looking for corrupted areas, and that's fine. Different people enjoy different things. I love to revisit lower level areas and farm corrupted zones. If you don't enjoy this, then don't do it! It's that simple. Just run maps and buy the fragments from people who enjoy farming corrupted zones with the currency you get from these maps. It's a win-win situation. At least they made it so that Vaal orbs are needed. If GGG would listen to every angry mob in the forums, POE would be ruined. :/ |

Not sure why this change is worth spending time on when there is a lot of other stuff you could improve on. Spending Vaal orbs, for a chance that fragments/vaal gems drop is a little bit confusing and seems to be a bad change. A Vaal orb is worth a chaos which is worth a fragment, making the best way to farm fragments buying them, not wasting more valuable currency on the chance that something less valuable will drop. Based on the original post you didnt want people to farm vaal fragments doing normal activities that already have benefits, but plenty of corrupted maps are run now. These people will then get a free extra incentive to farming high quant maps. This seems to go against the whole core of why youre changing fragments. Leave the fragments system alone ffs, and focus energy to areas where improvements can be made, not this seemingly wishy-washy change that causes a problem that youre claiming to fix by changing something in the first place.

" GGG's post explained in DETAIL the reasons why farming Fragments in Sarn and other starting areas isn't allowed anymore. I do not get what?:P I read your post and I see a new player that thinks that Vaal orbs are aquired by drops..This is ridiculous. Sure if it drops it's nice and a player that farms maps gets at least 5 per day. Otherwise you trade for these because you have enough currency to trade as a PLAYER WHO WANTS TO FARM ATZIRI. Are you an experienced 90+ player that wants to farm Atziri aren't you man?:P If you are not go back to Tidal and make a few runs. Players that farm Atziri don't cry in the forums about Vaal orb drops. They trade for them Enough said Anybody can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not within everybody's power and is not easy.

" I've already pointed out that you can potentially make six in one map using a map with three bosses that have the twinned mod so I'll leave that as far as I'll go with this. The current best way to get fragments is to buy them. Doesn't matter which ones, and then run them in the map device til you get the fragments you want. This is fine, except that the market for fragments has gotten extremely competitive which drives you back to the core of grinding low level zones, or paying for full sets which last I checked were going for 15-18C. Adding a new way to get fragments is a nice addition, regardless of the circumstance, because it is less tedious than finding new corrupted areas -- but it still retains the mechanic of letting you run a corrupted area from the map device. The problem as I understand it is that people are being exploitive of instances during their search for corrupted zones -- they create tons of new instances. They do this without even going so much as two steps before leaving which adds a lot of stress to the server. A better solution to this problem is not allowing the creation of near infinite instances, and instead requiring old instances to close after reaching a certain limit. They can tackle this by adding a feature to close instances themselves -- I'm not sure why they haven't done this yet. The problem as I see it isn't that they don't want more sacrifice pieces to drop because if they did this update wouldn't be happening. The problem is exploitive behavior. |

" This is simply a buff to people that can afford to run high quant, vaaled maps already. Nobody is gonna alt spam a map for double boss, then Vaal it for a chance at items worth 1 chaos. Buy the ticket, take the ride. Last edited by p0t#2885 on Nov 11, 2014, 8:09:45 PM

I did. I showed proof too. And I'm dirt poor for a level 93 character.

excellent! =)
I love this idea, vaal orbs are much cheaper to buy than a whole sacrifice set, and it adds something new to maps havent run many corrupted maps because im scared of what ill get stuck with...guess im gonna start now though =P |

" Rock on man. My blue twin turned into yellow with a vaal. I am sure I would be bummed if I would give a flying f*** what they are valued on the NASDAQ PoE. This change introduces some other way (albeit relatively small) to get frags compared to the mind-numbingly boring Tidal/Docks farm. You know, something you dont do all the time but once in a while take on a twinned museum/bazaar/courtyard with 8 mods just for the challenge. Or whatever a corrupted carto box produces for you. " IM not against trading at all, and in fact love the concept of trade economies. However in POE, i only trade for what i absolutely must, because its crazy sad how much it currently sucks. IGN:Axe_Crazy
