Mathil, why are you not using Rat's Nest?

Could you theory craft what this build would look like in a maximum DPS version (for example, you had the exalts to dump into items). But not glass cannon, just best in slot items.

There are many options for this build in terms of what helm you want to use. Mathil mentioned it in a video on the first page that Rat's Nest is one of the viable options for this build. He's just not using it because Starkonja's Head provides more life that's all.

I've done a lot of sacrificing of life already and didn't feel Rat's Nest as something I'd want to do as well. I gain 5 attack speed and potential 50 crit vs the 90 odd life of Starkonja. I am more happy to use a Rat's Nest on my bow char because I also gain the movement speed when playing that char.

Here is the little update of the spec/chars.

Personally the reason I don't bother with Rat's Nest is that the Crit just doesn't provide much benefit at my current stage. With Power Charges up my crit chance is 84% with Starkonja(Which if it didn't drop for me, I probably wouldn't be using either.), yeah I'd be pushing a 90%+ crit chance with Rat's Nest, but that's probably not worth the loss of life, seeing as I basically crit all the time already.

Rat's Nest is a good choice if you don't have a good Crit amulet or something, but if you're crit's in good shape, then the 5% attack speed isn't worth the loss of 90 base life to me, especially since I'm still using a Tabula.

Just testing out some gem combinations, and I just think I found my new gem combination. It still has Arc, but I swapped out Ball Lightning and Lightning Penetration for Fireball and Arctic Breath. Packs and even single target mobs (which took awhile for me too kill) would just melt. It's like a cone of death when all skills proc together.

Only downside is I will without a doubt one-shot myself to elemental reflect even with Doryani's. Fun none the less!

Should I get more DPS with a Lightning Penetration than a Faster Attacks? I use FA instead of BL and having trouble killing Lightning resist mobs.

Also, does lightning penetration does more damage to trash mobs without lightning resistance bonus?

They're good gloves, but I think in most cases Maligaro's would be better if you want purely offensive gloves. I know with Ice Spear, which I currently have in my setup, the second stage is far beyond the crit cap, and gains no benefit from any additional crit chance I get, but crit multiplier always helps, and Maligaro's just plain has more of that.

Maybe if you go Acrobatics, then you get some nice synergy with the Smoke Cloud, but Unholy Might only applies to physical damage, so even then you wouldn't be able to take full advantage of the item, whereas this build can definitely benefit from everything Maligaro's has to offer.

Of course depending on your crit chance without the gloves, you still might like a pair of Rare gloves with a max attack speed roll. In the end I think you'd need to try both and see what feels better to you.
