ReverendBizzarre: ele cleave templar [6k life, 45k+ dps]

Does Cleave take the weapon speed from both weapons into account when calculating how fast it attacks (i.e the average between both) or does it look at the fastest one or a certain hand or something?
It's the average between the weapons. So if one is 2.0 and another is 1.6, it will be 1.8 attk speed overall.

Actually, in this case I'm not so sure the faster one does a bigger damage contribution.

If you add up all the ele damage modifiers and divide it by 2 multiplying it by the attackspeed, the slower one actually comes out on top in terms of dps. Faster is not always better, I think a good balance between ele damage and attack speed is good.

APS >> on-weapon ele damage.
Your Anger, Wrath and on-gear ele dmg should be significantly more than your on-weapon ele dmg (unless you have an insane 3x max ele dmg) AND is applied to BOTH weapons and thus the effect of upping the APS is so much worth it.
In many cases even a 2.05 APS single ele is superior to dual/tri ele swords with <1.95 APS.

As 7oD says, it is all about the off weapon elemental damage. Off weapon elemental damage is twice as good as on-weapon, and will give you more DPS with faster weapons. You are right that if I had no other elemental damage from other sources - including wrath and anger - the tri-ele would be giving the bigger damage contribution. But that's not the case. I have wrath and anger (with IF), and I have other off-weapon elemental sources. All of that pushes the faster weapon ahead of the tri-ele weapon.

Are we supposed to use life gain on hit for the first like 60 levels instead of life leech? Just wondering.. maybe you just didnt mention that because it is common sense.. or that life leech has its special advantage for cleave that I don't know of?

Absolutely use life on hit at low levels. Exactly when you switch will depend on the gear you have at the time, but a 1% LL is pretty worthless. My LL gem was at 3% when I switched. I have a hard time imagining anybody having good enough DPS to make the switch at 2%, but if your DPS is nuts you can simply try it and see if it feels better than LoH or not. In the meantime, just keep LL on your weapon swap to level it.

thanks for the clarification.
Hi Vic,

It's me again.

I got SuperManlyManMode to level 66 and was a breeze. Currently at:
2.5k health
7k armor with Grace
4k damage with Cleave
Max resists

When do you think is a good time to start maps? My clearing speed for 66s are quite dismal compared to the experience I get from farming City of Sarn. Of note is that I died 3 times in a particularly badly rolled map with tons of rare necrophiles, dead chickens and fire rocks.

Would you elaborate on:

1. The level at which I should start maps?
2. The stats I should achieve before I start maps?

I think it would serve as a great guide to others reading the thread as well. Thanks in advance!

What's EQ?

So the two swords are iLevel 77. I got it for 1 GCP each from a guy. Still rerolling them of course.

The belt is a hand-me-down from an older character of mine. Most other pieces are either self-found or traded. I traded for the 5-link for 3 GCPs. Obviously the gear set is still suboptimal (little health) but it's okay for now I suppose. the belt's lovely though.

The 15% cleave I got for 3 GCPs also. Now that I look at it I suppose the amulet is the easiest to upgrade. Followed by the helm.

I have this helm:

But first of all it's not 4L yet plus if I put it on my Lightning Resist won't be capped.
