As you progress in cruel and merciless, effective hit points will be more and more important to avoid one shots. You going to stack survivability passives like + %life, +% Resistances and %lifereg. Later on, you will add more DPS passives. The gear you choose will require high armor, resistances, life and strength. Since you need a lot of life leech, physical damage is the way to go. Pros : + High mobility + High survivability + High Physical DPS Cons : - Low Elemental Damage - Needs high life leech 2 Build:
Spoiler
Passive distribution: 20 Points: Go for the base tree and head always into the direction of Iron Reflexes. 40 Points: Make it over to Iron reflexes. Now hit into the direction of blood magic. Pick Golems Blood, Diamond Skin, Unwavering Stance and Berserking. Do not pick any damage talents yet. Start to pick life nodes and savant. 60 Points: Pick life nodes. Again pick life nodes. And again, life nodes. Now move over to the marauder tree. Pick the 2x 12% life on the way. Do not get any damage talents. If you lack Life Leech, get blood drinker. 80 Points: Pick all defensive points left (If you didnt pick all). Now, go for the damage talents. Core passives: + Iron Reflexes + Blood Magic + Golems/Trolls Blood + Unwavering Stance + 2x Savant Build (91 Points spend)

Spoiler
Weapons: Aim for 1.6+ attacks per second and high physical damage. This will make your life leech more efficient, since you will do more hits in the same amount of time. This will result in more life per second. Keep in mind, that life leech is capped to 20% of your maximum hit points per second. High end Weapons: - Corsair Blade, 1.65 APS (fastest accuracy sword in game) - Eternal Sword, 1.6 APS
Spoiler
Sword - High Physical Damage - High Attack Speed Adds: - Strength - Life leech - Life Gain on Hit - Attack Speed - Life - Resistances Armor: Aim for high evasion armors, since it will get multiplied with your agility. An example: 100 Agility on your character screen. Item got 100 evasion rating. 5 Agility -> 1% more evasion rating. 100/5 -> 20% more evasion rating from items. 100% + 20% -> Factor 1,2 for evasion rating. 100 evasion rating * 1,2 -> 120 evasion. Due to Iron Reflexes, evasion is converted to armor. = 120 armor instead of 100. This is why you should always pick items with pure evasion rating.
Spoiler
Helm: - High Evasion - Life Adds: - Strength - Resistances Chest: - Evasion - Life Adds: - Strength - Resistances Gloves: - High Evasion - Life Adds: - Strength - Resistances - Life leech - Life Gain on Hit Boots: - High Evasion - Life Adds: - Resistances - Strength - Movement Speed Belt: - Life/Strength Adds: - Strength - Life Rings: - Resistances Adds: - Life - Life Leech - Strength Amulet: - 30 Strength/20 Attributes Adds: - Strength - Resistances - Life Leech - % increased evasion rating Flasks
Spoiler
Use 3 Granite Flasks and 2 Life Flasks. Recommended properties: Granite Flask - Increased Armor - Increased Evasion Rating Adds: - Increased Duration - Refills one charge on your critical strikes. Life Flask: - Curse Immunity - Frozen and Chilled Dispel Adds: - Movement Speed - Increased Duration 4 Skill Set (Skill and Support Gems):

Very nice job Ler (did you know that means "smile" in Swedish?). Finally a frontpage compilation of needed info, no more trawling through 18 pages (so far) to get what we need.
And of course much love and respect to Ceto for the original guide and build. Am only lvl31 in a3 normal but this build has helped me immensely and is perfect for my playstyle. IGN~Dyspeptic or Praecantarix

is this build viable in solo play with self found gear?
i only watched a few minutes of the gameplay videos and you had a party the whole time. |
|
" Short answer:- Yes. Long answer:- Yes it is. Sarcasm aside it all depends on your playstyle and to some degree your luck. I mention luck simply because self found gear is a very catch-all phrase that covers literally everything in the game. If you are extremely unlucky with drops or your playstyle is not compatible with the build then no amount of skill will make up for crappy gear. Thanks for summing up all the info from Ceto's thread! Your guide is really complete.
I'm 62 in a2 Merciless and this build is awesome even though I don't have all the support gems yet. One question though, why does culling strike have higher priority than melee physical damage on cleave supports? |
|
Shouldnt elemental dmg be prioritized on weapons aswell? they seem to boost my cleave to insane amounts
