A Veteran's Proposal for a Self Found League - Poll Included!
" The difference between "bind on account" and "perma allocation of an item even if dropped from inventory" is just semantic. Gray out the trade button and you have a SFL Descent with partying. When night falls

Isn't op just asking for offline mode but on desyncs and lags?

" No need to elaborate on that, removing supporter titles is telling enough. Unfortunately, your reputation precedes you, mister Holms :) Why, yes, items in a self-found league would have to be binding, otherwise we'll be back to square CB (which is actually second and third column, not a square, but let's not be small-minded about that). Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

" No, I'm not advocating an offline mode. I firmly believe the compare/compete mentality of online gaming is central to the longevity of PoE. |

" To expand a bit (ex bit of panda), I´d be fine with every man for himself mentality, it's prevalent anyway. But there is a fairly devious solution to enable trading for trusted teammates and disable economy. Once you drop something on the ground it gets a random timer from 30-60 seconds after which it becomes free-for-all, heh, I'd REALLY like to see random people trust one another to that extent :) Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

I took the time to try out D3 again after loot 2.0 dropped. I'm not particularly proud of myself, but I did notice some things that could be relevant to a potential SFL.
Items being bind on account used to be something I was very afraid of, but once I put in some time and got some decent gear to drop, I decided BOA was worth the increase in good drops. In addition, items could still be traded to anyone in your party for 2 hours after the drop. This was also a good compromise in my eyes. What I DIDN'T like, was how stupidly easy the game became when gear dropped like it was nobody's business. Getting decked out in a few hours? Really? Where is the fun in that?(looking at you RMTer's) So while I am in support of SFL, I too think that drop rates should not change radically. However, I would like to see ALL orbs being purchasable from the vendors, even if the price is much higher than one would pay if using trade chat on standard. I would also like to see regrets lowered in price to allow for more build changes as you progress w/o breaking your bank. I am not afraid of bind on account anymore. In fact, it seems to work out pretty good in D3. Wish I was better at feedback, but I have to try here as I really like this idea. But first, LET ME TAKE A SELFIE!!! I also like the idea of a paid league. This gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. If say, a paid league is invite only, then you can limit the amount of douchebaggery involved in trading/trade chat. If a paid league is pay for invite, then you can STILL somewhat limit the douchebaggery by HOPEFULLY attracting players that are willing to pay to play with other like-minded players. All speculation ofc, but really a league where RMT and/or rude/dickbag players didn't exist is my idea of heaven. Oh and no more desync ofc. If a paid league would be by invite only, and it was nothing more than a very small community of like minded individuals, can you imagine not having to interact with less than courteous players? I can, and I like the idea. Whatever GGG does, I hope it is something (instead of nothing). While posting, my computer has been re-installing WoW (haven't played it in over a year) and now I find myself staring blankly at the subscription screen. If desync were to be fixed, I don't think I could stop myself from playing this game. Edit: Also, SFL would give certain suspected RMT players (that love to tell the rest of us we are doing it wrong) a chance to put their money where their mouth is... so to speak. DISCLAIMER! Not going to lie, I've been playing the shit out of D3 and will be playing my Crusader tonight.
The new 2.0 system is... so very nice. with a few caveats. I dislike some of there 'smart drop' system. For example, I am playing my wizard and an awesome sword drops, but because I am a wizard it rolls for int. Now, I know, a lot of people are under the impression that D3 is all about static numbers and that it doesn't really matter what weapon you use. But, actually, that isn't the case at higher levels of play because simply pumping int/dex/str whatever has diminishing returns - so, no, awesome 2h axe with +400 int isn't going to beat my wand that has +300 (even though the dps meter says the axe is better). Since this 'smart drop' thing isn't even an option really in PoE due to its no-class class-system, I am all for the OP's idea and would be playing in a heartbeat if it were the case. To me, and to a lot of my friends, D2 was a *single player* experience with a *bit* of teaming every now and then. I understand that for some folks D2 was a multiplayer only game (more or less) but it wasn't for me... and that is what hurts so much about PoE. I am forced to give a shit about what some website says some orb is worth because the dev's decided to base loot drops around trading, which is just as bad as D3 basing loot drops around the AH. *edit* as for 'how does GGG profit from essentially a solo league' - well, I play solo and I gave them a grand. If that isn't enough I'll gladly give them a small subscription fee ~10 bucks a month for sure. "the premier Action RPG for hardcore gamers." -GGG Happy hunting/fishing Last edited by Wittgenstein#0994 on Mar 24, 2014, 4:48:03 PM

6 months ago i would have said it was stupid to attempt SFL but there is no way to combat rmt and cheating at this point.
