Barrage Wonder Wanderer – how to DEMOLISH maps (1.3.X)

so i tried vaal's pact and removed it and found my survivability has increased. but now i'm considering swapping out Chain for something else.

any other decent skills to put in with CoC,Barrage,EK,Life Leech?
Probably noobish question...but how do you transition from 2h ST to this DW wand? Or do you just ignore it for levelling purposes...

Was thinking of trying this...but possibly not in standard. Was wonderind what the best way to go about levelling would be and what build...

Read the thread from page 24 onwards.

If you have some decent leveling gear stashed, you could level as a dual striker. I had ungil's gauche and mightflay and leveling with them was a complete breeze by the end of Act 3 Cruel when I started feeling a bit too squishy for melee. It still works, just not so easy at that point. They can carry you to Merciless Fellshrine easily though, and there you can finish your leveling until your hero is ready to transition to CoC.

edit: they cost about 1 chaos each in standard

edit2: and you don't have to change skill points, I think the only different node I took was From the Shadows cause it's quite effective and on your way to the big Shadow life cluster
You have to be realistic about these things.

Hello and thnx for sharing this interesting build.

Could you add some more videos where you are showing how the build works on high lvl maps?
On lvl 66 maps almost each working build looks demolishing, so it would be great to see this build in action on high lvl maps or on mid lvl maps in 6-ppl party.

Sorry for answering instead of OP, but he isn't playing this build for some time now and isn't paying attention to the thread. To sum up my experience with it: the build as it is in the original post is not particularly endgame-viable, or at least I think so. However, with some adjustments, it is. I cant tell how it functions in high-level maps, but I can confirm it facerolls up to mid-level maps, although some of the tougher bosses are problematic. However, these bosses are problematic for all but the tankiest and best-geared characters. Actually, once i 5-linked my volls and added cold snap, it became so easy that I got bored and I'm not really playing it that much now (lvl 80). This is strictly subjective since I have a very low tolerance for grinding and the endgame map grind just burned me out, the build itself is very fun to play.
You have to be realistic about these things.

As a tested leveling technique (Currently lvl 56 1h+Sh Ranger and level 64 Shadow based on original build):

1-20 -> Use whatever is most convenient, 2H Spectral Throw with a rare Hammer/Axe works well
20-35 -> Transition to DW/1H+Shield (Or keep 2h) (as preferred) using 1H weapons with Dual Strike/Reave or Spectral Throw. Transition because you start to get enough skillpoints that focus on DW/Block depending on your build.
35+ -> Cast on Crit + Chain + EK + Barrage while wearing Voll's Protector.
Without Voll's I'd suggest keeping with your weapon of choice until you get a 5L and can run PowerCharge on Crit with a decent % chance. If you need a bit of extra crit add the Power Charge from right next to Shadow. 4 PowerCharges means a minimum of 24% crit, with SkillPoints and gear this should be at ~40%

Other than Lightning Thorns you should be fairly safe against almost all enemies with this. Thorns are best dealt with by partying or just racing by as quickly as possible.

40% Chance + Chain + CoC is slow, but as long as there are at least 2 enemies you'll have a fairly consistent chance to burst out EK damage. Adding Maligaro's and Rat's nest will things up drastically.

Once you reach a point where your chance to Crit+Cast is ~45% (CtCoC * Crit Chance, disregard how many projectiles) you can swap out Chain for FasterAttacks/LGoH/LL/AddedFire to increase your damage/survival vs single targets and decrease the mana cost (easier to sustain).

Unlike many builds, once you get a viable EK Barrage setup your damage is essentially guaranteed. Get any wand with +%Crit chance to get the chance over 9-10% and your damage will be viable through cruel/merciless. Adding Spell/Physical/Projectile damage will let you kill faster, but is not needed.

I've done up to 74 maps with a much tankier variant (230%ish increase life instead of 150, no vaal pact, max res without purity)...and even then it feels pretty shaky. ...almost one shotted myself earlier anyways to double phys reflect + 3 shock stacks on mob + lit thorns, which while excruciatingly painful for many builds...it shouldn't be one shot territory for them

dps holds up well, but survivability really isn't the best, but that's just the nature of all coc builds. without coc procs, you just do no damage and don't leech anything back. a string of bad luck while taking heavy damage (like say...bear trap and firetrapped by map caliga) will very easily result in a rip. you can't surgeon seethings sadly, so you're limited in how many times you can use those to bail you out of sol rng

still, not many builds can work as well (not get massacred is more accurate) as this with such little gear investment (not using rat's nest or maligaro's...both my wands are complete ass that I bought for 1c each, all other gear are mostly self found rares with 2 res or 1 res + life, chest is random 5l I alch'ed with crap eva and 1 res.......total currency spent = 7c)
Bars, can you show your gear? the advice you've been giving here has been pretty useful, thanks.

A more effective setup for the boots would be barrage-coc-EK-summon skeletons cause right now summoning skeletons is a DPS loss, but I decided trying to roll GGGB on red/blue boots would be optimistic.

The chest I used until very recently while I was trying to 5-link the volls (bought a white 5-link chest for 3 chaos, crafted it with alterations and regaled just for kicks):

Until about lvl 75, I used two blue wands with 1.30 attack speed which I bought from the vendor and crafted with alterations until I got them to ~10% crit chance. They didn't even have +spell damage modifiers. The two rare wands are a significant damage boost but damage was still quite good even with the 2 blue wands and the old 5-link armor.

Gear cost: belt, diamond ring, boots, voll's protector - self-found

Maligaro: 1 ex (most expensive purchase)
wands, fire resist ring, amulet, helm - ~3-4 chaos each, total probably around 1 ex

Passive Tree

The bottom left part is actually a bit ineffective cause I followed the original guide and wanted to use vaal pact, but after two attempts to use it at 67 and 77 I decided it is terrible. A more effective tree would look like this with the potential to fill up the scion life wheel from levels 81 to 90.

I don't have respec points or enough regret orbs and I'm not sure I'll level the character more (map grind = fucking boring), but that would be optimal.

p.s. at the guy who's been trying to sell this 5 ex wand for some time now: good luck mate
