As a consumer, I would prefer permanent effect items. However, I would be concerned about the long-term profitability for GGG if they offer permanent effect instead of one-time use items. I want PoE to continue to be developed and added to over the years to come, and that's going to require GGG to have some way to have a continuous profit source. I think permanent items would be bad for the game overall in this regard.
Just my 2 cents. |

" But I am unable to transfer the use of the flashy sword animation I bought and placed on an item, on another item on another char. The CS items is the important thing, not the in game item. Ascension tied to Lab is the worst thing GGG has done...apart from GGG's philosophy on Trading. Oh and Gambling Loot boxes. And selling out to tencent. I used to love GGG. I supported to ensure GGG remained independent, now I just wish I could get my money back. -_- Last edited by Chameleon#4418 on Jan 22, 2013, 10:52:05 PM

I choose Option 1 Chris.
With how much you switch gear in this game. Option 2 just isn't viable. |

" Both examples are terrible and IMO, very greedy. Make any one effect cost $5 and freely movable forever with no drawback. I have to say, it really scares me that you have made a point on claiming ethical microtransactions, and now you are appearing to offer the typical greedy options that have made so many people hate F2P games. If you made a good game that lots of people will like, you will make ridiculous amounts of money without having to use greedy methods. Very few people are remotely interested in paying anything over $10, or even close to that, for 1 single effect, and the idea of charging us to remove an effect is simply absurd. (im assuming that you plan on eventually having a very large number of effects) F2P is simple. Make a good game and people will throw money at you. You don't need to charge the price of an entire indie game for any one random cosmetic item. |

" for me i'd like there to be both options available. let's say there's something i would determine as an important effect or trait for my character (say weapons appear spectral) and I know i'd like this throughout my characters lifetime i would want the all you can eat option 1. however when trialling things, developing looks, or perhaps more seasonal effects (such as a red nose during xmas) option 2 is preferable. to me it's more about whether i want my character to appear a certain way (option 1) versus whether i want a specific item to appear a certain way (option 2). if these were account wide and reusable on different leagues then i'd be happy paying a premium to do so. * also, ignore all the BS rhetoric about any of these transactions being greedy. this is where GGG have a right to make money and I for one support the intent behind these transactions. |

" That would be reasonable IMO, although 30 dollars seems a bit steep based on my knowledge of item shop prices from other games (I know you said hypothetical and those prices were just mentioned for discussion) |

I think the best option here would be having both one-time purchase AND permanent.
Most people would want permanent effects, I am sure. That's because the nature of this game is the massive loot system. This is especially true because there are going to be on-going updates, so people will never know "when's the best time" to apply the effect. It also allows low-level characters to equip these effects (like gore) because I doubt anyone would use it on a lvl 1 item. That said, I do believe one-time purchase has its use. People who can't afford a huge amount at one-time can buy it temporarily, and others MAY get to try the effect on before they decide if they want to get it permanently. |
