0.10.0 patch notes, balance explanations and how microtransactions work

It is an excellent change. Hopefully some fun things will fall into a personally acceptable price range. Look forward to spending my points and buying more.

Great stuff. No... AMAZING stuff. This is going to be a blast! Big thanks to GGG and alpha testers, let's all enjoy the ride - I'm sure it's gonna be a ride of the lifetime!
Are you shpongled yet?

UPDATE: Due to extensive feedback in this thread, we have changed the implementation so that effects can be reclaimed at no cost. Microtransaction effects can be freely moved between items. This will affect their initial pricing somewhat, but we'll investigate adding cheaper one-use "demo" versions of them in the near future.

This is promising/hopeful news, but unfortunately, without an actual number to go with it, it doesn't really mean anything to me. For all I know the "initial pricing" affect could come out as $20 or more, which would make it bad news.

oh christ. look, we get it. you like being miserable. but how about giving it a break eh?

Chris and the GGG team have made a huge concession for us, the players, purely because we wanted something different in how these microtransactions were implemented. There are very few game companies (or anything companies) that would do so in such a commendable fashion.

Ultimately it's GGG's business to set a price point that means they get the volume of sales they need. If you dont want to spend say the price of a couple of cups of coffee to get a permanent cosmetic effect on your account's characters then so be it.

That cleans up the awkwardness I mentioned in another thread quite nicely while still requiring multiple purchases for multiple characters as a convenience. A good change.. thanks. :)

I don't see any reason why you can't have both the initially planned implementation and the new one simultaneously if you flag an item based on the implementation used. The sales numbers from each might also serve as an interesting source of data for planning future items.

I'd probably buy the new implementation for general use/levelling where I expect a lot of transfers, but the old implementation for a unique or endgame item I plan to keep it on whether I use it often or not. The latter use isn't so much a "demo" as a "stable" use case.

+1

What did they expect? To buy awesome effects for 50 cents?
I must say I totally agree that the cosmetics shldnt be a consumable but rather something i can apply to any of my items/weapons at free will. I do think to spice it up every month shld have 1 exclusive skin/cosmetic that is a bit of a bigger price. just add something that wld make it really stand out from the other skins. and lets say after that month is up you can no longer get that exclusive skin until lets say the end of the year in which case you can put it on sale as a bundle with all the other exclusive skins from each month of the year. example of a exclusive skin. i dont know lets say a crazy looking sword skin that sometimes talks after you killing an enemy and you can have lets say merveils (srry if i didnt spell her name right) head atop the sword. random things like that. that wld prolly draw more attention then you might think. a skin for shields that was crafted from the wood of the ship that helped you get to wraeclast in the first place. exclusive items wld have some more meaning behind them(some kind of lore) rather than lets say a flame skin for swords or ice. this cld help intrigue ppl more about the world of wraeclast.

Good news indeed. Thank you.
Hmmm...
Hello Chris. I don't know if you'll see this all the way on the nineteenth (maybe twentieth?) page, but I have a very earnest, heartfelt request to make.

I really enjoy Path of Exile. It's almost all I play really, except with occasional forays into Mass Effect (Wrex is the alpha cutie). But I can't help but feel something is missing when I play. See, I would really appreciate it if we were able to purchase more photorealistic thighs for the templar. I mean with all the little nooks and crevaces a muscular old man's thighs ought to have; little ingrown hairs, maybe some scars that rise up beneath that dangly toga bit. I would especially appreciate if we could have a glow like with the platinum kiwi, except with even more realistic shadow features to highlight the, um, details of the character class.

With love,
hguhgu

You are awesome, Chris. Just wanted to let you know. ;)
Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.
