0.10.0 patch notes, balance explanations and how microtransactions work

UPDATE: Due to extensive feedback in this thread, we have changed the implementation so that effects can be reclaimed at no cost. Microtransaction effects can be freely moved between items. This will affect their initial pricing somewhat, but we'll investigate adding cheaper one-use "demo" versions of them in the near future.

Thank you for the quick response to the issue/issues raised.

Now if only I could fall asleep, to excited for the release...
Ugh, having two threads about this is confusing. Sticking to the patch notes.

Is it necessary to offer higher quantities of points-per-dollar later on? Why not just have sales, e.g. 25% off character slots? That way you know that 1 point is 10 cents without any finicky math stuff.
IRON MAN
I want to point out here exactly how awesome GGG is. The microtransactions have been hush hush even to Alpha until today. That being said Chris read every single post and all the feedback from people in this post and took it to heart.

This is the first feedback on a large scale he has had about the microtransactions. The first few rounds of the shop are a learning experience for GGG, just as the game has developed over time so will the shop. It might be to high priced to start and that is ok. I would rather it be a little to high to start than to low, raising prices always is harder than lowering them. The shop will grow, so give GGG time - they WILL get it right.

One step at a time. If you ever doubted GGG has the best customer service in the industry. Actually the ONLY customer service in the industry, please read this thread.

I had much respect for this company before tonight. The patch notes, Qarl's notes and This thread have tripled them.

How does the reclaim (or remove of effects) of item/skilleffects work?
Pressing the reclaim-button in the shopwindow opens a new window with all purchased effects?
Then choose one, and that one will be removed from my item/effect and go back to my shopwindow?
That way or different?
On microtrasactions:

Personally, I am against items being non-tradable, on single use items. This, however is a way to prevent scamming using points, which leads to real money problems. I will get back to this.

My Issues with Item-Bound Effects

- Item becomes non-tradable; I am against it on this genre. I believe it breaks one of the good things about ARPGs, which is trading
- MicroTrans become too, let's just say "confusing"; A mistake in application will cost you a charge on your Effect. To take it back, you need another item, which is a hassle, and it hurts the budget
- Scaling problems; Right now we have 3 types according to suggestions: One-time, Bulk/Charges_per_use,and Permanent. That is hard to maintain, and needs a lot of explanations

I like the idea proposed by some of the players(I saw borlur and peachii) about effects that are limited for a period of time, that can be applied to any items. This will solve ALL of my issues

The Advantages of Account-bound Effects

- Item becomes tradable again; Why? Because the effects are attached to the players. Any item that leaves the players hands will lose their "Cash" effects. No more scamming on effects.
- Mistake in application does not matter. You still have "x" days. :)
- Scaling is easier. So what kind of items will we have now? 1 day, 10 days, 60 days, 90 days, and "forever" days. It is like subbing for a premium look, you want it this month or next year, it doesn't matter, it is up to the player

I need more purple titles
As this is a free to play game, I am willing to pay considerable amounts of money to augment MY characters to reflect MY style. That means different heads, hair styles, skin colors, body types/size, and especially animations, audio samples for voices, and GENDER.

I eagerly await to see the additions GGG implements through-out the life of PoE.

Oh, and the developer response that has been given to the community within this forum is something I didn't think could ever exist in the real world. Keep it up, and ill keep singing your praise to the world.
Very cool, I am more than pleased with the patch notes and they don't appear to be re-adjusting skills out of the blue by 50-100% like other games, though I never tried a CI build.

With the micro-transaction permanent vs one-time use debate, like everyone else I would completely support the permanent Option 1. However, I wouldn't want to buy one "flaming weapon" or whatever effect then have no desire for other effects after - thus not generating continuous support for the game (thinking in the long run). Another side effect of having a permanent effect, what if a new "super-blue-flaming weapon" effect is released a month from now - do I just put my old (hefty in price) purchase in the dumpster and upgrade to this cooler/newer one? What if "flaming weapon" gets tired and old, I've already invested in it - it would kind of suck to be stuck with it. I guess this can be managed of what an Option 1 purchase would include and have to be flexible with the future of the game. I would sign up for a "time-limited" purchase that lets me use a skin or animation however many times I want on any character similar to Option 1 - but would expire and need to be "re-charged" after a month or so - maybe allowing me to try a different one.

Also, is the Templar going to finally find pants in Act 3? I'd like to also see the Duelist get beefed up in the animations department.

Great job, can't wait to start playing!

but then whine when it's free, but there are microtransactions, which you DONT have to purchase, and you will be able to purchase these transactions for a fraction of the price of proper games,

You clearly do not understand why people use the word greed in this context. Try reading everything in the thread. Also, IF the suggestions were accurate, $30 for a permanent effect is in no way a "fraction of the price of proper games".

please enlighten me ... I don't know on what planet you live on, but where I come from calling someone greedy is an insult and a particularly personal one at that given it questions their character. Forgive me but $30 compared with the figure I gave you of $100, since when is 3/10 or roughly a 1/3 not a fraction?

And you guys wonder why non gamers think gamers are maladjusted wankers?

People think that because of fanboys. ^

Wow, I said something positive about GGG/ POE therefore I am a Fanboy ... and in the land of childish insults you have a penis on your head :)
